The Burning World by Isaac Marion
(Release Date: February 7, 2017)
Synopsis: Being alive is hard. Being human is harder. But since his recent recovery from death, R is making progress. He’s learning how to read, how to speak, maybe even how to love, and the city’s undead population is showing signs of life. R can almost imagine a future with Julie, this girl who restarted his heart—building a new world from the ashes of the old one.
And then helicopters appear on the horizon. Someone is coming to restore order. To silence all this noise. To return things to the way they were, the good old days of stability and control and the strong eating the weak. The plague is ancient and ambitious, and the Dead were never its only weapon.
How do you fight an enemy that’s in everyone? Can the world ever really change? With their home overrun by madmen, R, Julie, and their ragged group of refugees plunge into the otherworldly wastelands of America in search of answers. But there are some answers R doesn’t want to find. A past life, an old shadow, crawling up from the basement.
Why I’m dying to read this:
I read Warm Bodies in 2011, and it was followed up with a short story, and a movie. (The movie was great!) I remember when he announced that there would be a sequel, and I’ve been waiting patiently ever since.
I have a shelf on Goodreads that is designated specifically for upcoming releases, and for so long it’s been there with a gray cover and no update. Until I looked a few days ago and it now has a cover! And a release date!
Now the real countdown begins!
Event hosted by Breaking the Spine, featuring a future release you’re waiting for.
I remember when the Warm Bodies movie came out, and I wanted to see it. Then I found out it was a book and couldn’t wait to read it. Sadly, I never made it to either one. I need to bump it up. It sounds like you really liked it. I hope you love the new installment!

I’m not sure if you’re a Zombie fan, but the first book was really good. 🙂

I’m a zombie fan from the olden days. You know, when the next victim was MOST DEFINITELY the chick in the hot pants or the two kids making out?
I am forever awed by the creativity that my beloved genre keeps generating…
It is most definitely an interesting world these days, with lots of meat for the zombie genre to fee upon.
I LOVED “Warm Bodies” also. It was a MUCH better version of “Romeo & Juliet” than that gangsta (was it a musical?) crap with DeCaprio in the late 1990’s. *ugh*
Thanks for sharing this. 🙂

LOL! I never realized how it was a Romeo & Juliet type of story, but you’re so right! And while I watched that DiCaprio version (because I loved him back then) I wasn’t actually a big fan of that movie either. Now that you’ve pointed it out, Warm Bodies is a much better Star Crossed Lovers story. 🙂

Yes. DiCaprio redeemed himself in The Departed. He is an excellent actor. He just went astray for a few years there. I love Shakespeare too, so it has always been painful to see bad versions. But yes, I think Warm Bodies got it right, even though there was a happily ever after. 🙂
