I thought this one would be easy! Apparently I’ve complicated things for myself, having created 3 different TBR shelves on Goodreads.
I have the usual ‘to read’. Then I have ‘BB’ for books that I want to read and review on Birdie Bookworm. Then, I also have ‘On Deck’ for books that I want to read asap but for some reason or other haven’t actually scheduled them. It’s the I’ve Got My Eye On You shelf.
Having three certainly complicates this list though. I have to cross reference and see what date I’ve added things in order to come up with an honest list. Why do I do these things to myself??
These are seven books I’ve added to one to read shelves recently that I’m overly excited for.
1. The Love Interest by Cale Dietrich.
I know I’ve been talking about this book a lot, but the fact of the matter is I yearn for this book. It’s everything from the cover to the synopsis, to that secret that’s not really so secret… everything about this calls to me. If it turns out to be a disappointment I might just cry. Seriously. I’ve put a lot of eggs into this book’s basket.
2. The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
I love when YA authors take very important current topics and punch you with them. I just know that this one is going to be on my list of books that should be required reading for Middle and High school readers. For anyone really. I have a feeling you’ll be seeing a lot of this book on Birdie Bookworm in the future.
3.News of the World by Paulette Jiles
I need to fill up at least five rows of chatter all about how much I love this book, so as not to throw off my TTT format, but I really don’t have anything additional to say. It’s honestly just about the synopsis. Old loner takes 10 year old girl on a trip to return her to her family, and over the journey they bond. This book screams Wendy. (That’s me, BTW.)
4. The Rook by Daniel O’Malley
It seems like this book is popping up everywhere. First my good friend texted me and said it was a must read. Then it’s been reviewing all over the place. Finally I see that it’s been compared to X-Men meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Damn. SOLD! This is one that I want to read immediately. In fact, I’ve already purchased it!
5. The Female of the Species by Mindy McGinnis
If it were on cover alone, I’d never read this. It reminds me of The Survival Game. It’s just a little bit bland. But, turn it over (or open the hardcover and read the flap) and you’ll read all about a girl who lives in the darkness. One who “knows how to kill someone. And doesn’t feel bad about it.” Tell me that’s not intriguing.
6. Spencer Cohen, Book 1 by N.R. Walker
Frankly I’d never even heard of this book. I may have continued to exist in this world never having heard of this book if I hadn’t stumbled on a blog reviewing it. I stopped for that cover. It’s stunning. I added it to my TBR for the interesting plot. I bought it because it hasn’t stopped haunting me. I’m ignoring the voice in my head that’s fearful I’ll hate it.
7. Truth or Beard by Penny Reid
Okay, I admit it. I have a thing for beards. If you hadn’t noticed yet, I’m confessing. If the cover has a dude on it with a sexy beard, I’m going to stop and look. If it’s followed by a good rating and a good review, I’ll add it. If I continue to see amazing review after amazing review, I’ll probably buy it. That’s the story of how I met the Winston Brothers series.
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly event hosted by The Broke and the Bookish!
LOL! Of course you’d add Truth or Beard to your TBR pile! I can’t wait to hear what you think.

I have The Rook on my wishlist also – I hadn’t heard that comparison before so perhaps I need to go and bump it up the list.

That line from the synopsis of “Female of the Species” is SUPER intriguing. I’ll definitely keep my eye out for this book at the library. Thanks for the recommendation and good luck with your TBR!

I loved The Rook (and shamefully I got the much wanted Stiletto ARC and it is *still* unread). I had a friend calling me and saying pick The Rook now. When I got the audio and start listening, I understood why.
I hope you like it!
And omigosh The Love Interest sounds so appealing. I must be living under a rock because I never heard of it… but it is now the shinning new addition to my TBR.
