Diversity Spotlight Thursday was created by Aimal @ Bookshelves & Paperbacks.
Definitely check out Aimal’s page for the full rundown, but basically you select three books to highlight each week, using this format:
- A diverse book you have read and enjoyed
- A diverse book that has already been released but you have not read
- A diverse book that has not yet been released
A Diverse Book I Have Read and Enjoyed
I love Patrick Ness. I love the plots that he imagines up, but I especially love how he doesn’t shy away from writing a wide variety of people. This isn’t one of my favorite Patrick Ness books, but what does make it special is it’s diversity. I love that.
A Diverse Book That Has Already Been Released, but I Have Not Read
The Queen & the Homo Jock King. I can’t wait to read this. Pushing it back has been completely out of my control, but it’s probably better since I think I’ve overwhelmed you all with my TJ Klune obsession.
However, as far as diverse books go, not only is the main character of this one a Drag Queen but it also has a Bi-Gender character. Cory/Kori was introduced in the third Bear, Otter and The Kid book but she transitioned into the At First Sight series. (If you’re interested in this book, I recommend reading all three Bear, Otter, and The Kid books AND Tell Me It’s Real first.)
A Diverse Book that Has Not Been Released
I just got an ARC of this one, and damn if I’m not super excited!
I’m especially excited to read this, as it’s about an illegal Mexican Immigrant that embarks on a dangerous journey across the border, looking for a fresh start in the US. It’s also about the cousin she finds. There’s more to the story, click the book for the real synopsis.
Doesn’t that sound epic.
Thanks for introducing me to Lucky Boy! It sounds like a wonderful read, and I’ve added it to my TBR. 🙂 I love Patrick Ness’s books too! He’s such an incredible writer; TRoUJLH isn’t my favorite of his either, but I loved how he incorporates important topics like homophobia and mental illnesses into his narratives. ❤
