It’s Birdie’s Super Sunday Tag day!

Today’s tag is brought to us by Ava at Reads, Rhythms and Ruminations.  Her blog is one of my favorites.  We both share a love of good books, if not anime, but either way I can feel the passion in everything she writes.  Also, seriously, how cute is her design?  Definitely check her out AFTER you read my tag!

The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak

I’m not really sure what it was about this book that I couldn’t connect to.  I usually love books like this one, but I couldn’t lock into the story and lose myself in it.  It may be the era, which is just a really hard one for me to read.  It’s such recent history, and I know how important connecting and feeling that history is, it’s just really hard for me to read them.  It’s too emotional, and I wasn’t even alive.  My Grandma was a little girl, and you’d think that would make it easier.  It actually makes it harder.  In addition, I thought I would like Death as the narrator… in the way that Love was the narrator of The Romantics, or those lost to AIDS was the narrator of Two Boys Kissing… I didn’t, unfortunately.

I know that this is my problem, not a problem with the book.  I’m fully aware that I suck, because this book is amazing.  It’s just not my thing, sadly.  I didn’t even finish it.

Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta

I know, I know.  If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you’ve probably seen me talk about this book a lot.  That’s why it’s the only thing that I could have chosen for a book I’d recommend to absolutely EVERYONE.  If you’re reading this blog, then I recommend Jellicoe Road to you.

It’s about family, and that connection and bond.  It’s about how friends become your family, and how those friendships are so important.  It’s about losing yourself, but finding yourself somewhere new.  It’s about love, and loss.

I could say a lot more, but instead I’ll just say: If you haven’t read Jellicoe Road, please please do.

Twilight Saga by Stephanie Meyer

I actually hate questions like this one.  We can all be protective of the books we love, and I don’t like putting down what someone else likes.

However, I’ll go with Twilight and the rest of the series.  I remember reading these books, my inability to put them down.  I was sucked into the vortex until halfway through Breaking Dawn and something happened that completely turned my perspective around.  Now, as an adult, I see these characters in a whole new light.

I truly believe, to the bottom of my heart, that this is one of the unhealthiest representations of life and love I’ve ever read.

Him by Sarina Bowen & Elle Kennedy

This is another book that I talk about all the time, but this tag seems to force us into talking about all our favorites.

If we’re talking about book that’s just a romance novel, Jamie and Wes have the most romantic, loving relationship I’ve ever read.  What started in middle school at hockey camp, and picks up just after college, is the deepest connection two people could ever have.  Jamie is everything to Wes, their long time friendship was the light in his rough life.  For Jamie, who had a wonderful family, Wes like the sunshine.  They were best friends, and then they were lovers.

I’ve read Him about 3 times, and every single time I adore it and them.

IT by Stephen King

In general, books don’t scare me.  I don’t think a book has ever made me lose sleep.  At worst, I’ve looked over my shoulder a few times, or snuggled under a blanket, but they just don’t give me nightmares the way movies do.

However, I love IT and it’s considered a scary book.  The scary elements were all there.  Pennywise the clown was terrifying, and that was only a section of the story.  IT was actually manifests as each of our worst fears.  Can you imagine that?  Mine would be a giant earthworm!

BUT, what I loved about the book was the friendship between all the children.  See, even in a horror book I can’t help but gravitate to characters and relationships over plot.

Under the Dome by Stephen King

I can’t think of a book that took me forever to read.  I’m sure there was one, but I can’t think of it.  Instead, I’m going to talk about a book I thought would take me forever, but it didn’t.

Under the Dome is 1074 pages.  It’s MASSIVE.  I thought I’d be reading it for weeks, but Goodreads says I knocked it out in 6 days.  I think that’s pretty amazing myself.  It’s an average of 179 pages a day, which seems like nothing, but 179 pages a day consecutively for 6 days… I had a lot of time on my hands, I guess.

I really liked this book, but I think the biggest draw was Barbie.  I’ve read a nice amount of Stephen King books, but Barbie was the first character he wrote that I was attracted to.  He’s one of my favorite fictional men.

Heaven by VC Andrews

I read everything by VC Andrews when I was younger, and I did love all of them.  I still do.  I just loved the Casteel saga the most.  They’re all pretty much the same, young girl lives through evil families.  Heaven just had Troy, and I was so in love with Troy.  (Yes, even after I found out the secret.)

Heaven also had Tom, and Logan. I enjoyed the entire Casteel brood of kids.  Thinking about it makes me want to reread.

I’m taking the cheaters way out.
