Burn, Rewrite, Reread Book Tag

This tag sounds like so much fun!  Thank you so much to The Sassy Book Geek for tagging me.  I started to do this tag based on books I loved, but I couldn’t.  There are no books I love that I’d want to burn.

I’m using the Goodreads tip below.  I’d rather it be truly random, from ALL books I’ve read.  The good and the bad.

Rules:

  • Randomly choose 3 books (Tip: Use the “Sort > Random” option on your Goodreads’ Read shelf.).
  • For each group, decide which book to burn, which one to rewrite, and which to reread (a lot like Kiss, Marry, Kill).
  • Repeat until you completed three rounds (or six).

Round 1

Burn: Enid’s Story by Francine Pascal

It was weird to see this pop up after I sorted at random.  I was obsessed with this series when I was a preteen.  Burning this one is a bit sad, it’s like burning my youth.  Unfortunately it just doesn’t hold a candle to books I’ve read as an adult.  Sorry Enid.  You’re outta here.

Rewrite: Highlander Most Wanted by Maya Banks

I actually really love Maya Banks historical romance series.  I did only give it 3 stars though, so while I can’t remember right now, I’m sure there were things I would have changed.  Three stars means I’d like to rewrite, probably.

Reread: Blackout by Mira Grant

I wouldn’t mind finding the time to reread this entire series.  To date, it’s my all time favorite Zombie story… mostly because it wasn’t really about Zombies at all.

Round 2

Burn: The Forbiden Game by LJ Smith

Just like Enid’s Story, this is another one that I read when I was a preteen.  I actually LOVED this author, and if my random selection had given me Secret Circle or Vampire Diaries my answer might be different.  In this case, The Forbidden Game was probably my least favorite.  So, burn baby, burn.

Rewrite: Hate is Such a Strong Word by Sarah Ayoub

I fell in love with the premise of this book.  I’m all about reading diverse, but this one missed the mark.  I didn’t connect with any of the characters, or the plot.  I feel like this could be so much better if it was rewritten.  I’m not sure I’m up to the task, but I’m sure someone out there is.

Reread: The Understatement of the Year by Sarina Bowen

True story, I actually plan to reread this soon (in audio).  I love Sarina Bowen, and I particularly love her M/M.  I can’t wait to dive back in.

Round 3

Burn: Eclipse by Stephanie Meyer

I wish I could unread this series.  (To Twilight fans out there – Don’t hate me!)

Rewrite: Seeds of Yesterday by VC Andrews

I don’t actually remember anything that happened in this fourth book.  I remember it was about Crissy, Cathy’s daughter.  I have no idea what happens though.  Funny how that doesn’t make me want to reread it.

Reread: Lover Awakened by JR Ward

I love Black Dagger Brotherhood.  I especially loved the first 5 books.  I could reread these over and over and not get sick of them.  They kick Twilight’s butt!  (Just sayin!)

Round 4

Burn: Poughkeepsie by Debra Anastasia

I loved this book when I first read it.  I wrote a glowing review.  Then I found out that it started as a Twilight fanfiction.  I have no problem with writing fanfiction.  I understand why it’s fun, to write and to read.  I just don’t like being hoodwinked.  I feel hoodwinked.  Once I found out all I could see were similarities.  It completely ruined the book for me.  I haven’t changed my review, since that was how I felt at the time, but I got rid of my print copy and I would never ever reread it.

Rewrite: Donners of the Dead by Karina Halle

I loved the premise of this book, and I was really really looking forward to reading it.  It could have been epic.  Instead it was flat.  The characters didn’t stand out and the plot was mediocre.  It seriously needs a rewrite.

Reread: Pansies by Alexis Hall

I know I only gave this 3 stars, but I actually really liked it.  I liked both of the characters, and I liked the way they worked for their relationship.  I would definitely reread this one if the timing was good.

Round 5

Burn: Road to Nowhere by Christopher Pike

This one hurts a little.  I’m pretty protective of my Christopher Pike books, and even if I don’t particularly remember much about this one, I still would refuse to let anyone burn it.  If only it weren’t going up against these two.

Rewrite: Disasterology 101 by Taylor V Donovan

See above.  The only reason Disasterology 101 is ‘rewrite’ is because PsyCop is in the running.  I could probably find something to rewrite in this one.  I’ll have to, because I’m not changing one word in Body and Soul.

Reread: Body and Soul by Jordan Castillo Price

Vic is my kindred spirit.  I wouldn’t change a thing about him, or about this story, and I just finished a reread and I’m thinking about starting it over.  This series is fecking brilliant.

Round 6

Burn: Armada by Ernest Cline

I actually really liked this book, but of the three I’ve got to let it go.  I kinda think that’s a surprising answer.  I thought I’d pick Carnal Innocence to burn.  I’ve surprised myself.

Rewrite: Carnal Innocence by Nora Roberts

Nora Roberts is so generic to me.  She’s good, don’t get me wrong, but I feel like her books fit the same outline every time.  Carnal Innocence is no exception.  It did have Tucker though, and I loved Tucker.  That saved it from the burn pile, because I think a rewrite could fix all the issues and I’d get to keep sweet, laid back Tucker.

Reread: Curse of the Wendigo by Rick Yancy

I love the Monstrumologist series.   Curse of the Wendigo was my favorite.  It’s my only foray into Gothic Horror, and it’s so amazing that I haven’t been tempted by another.  I should plan a reread soon.

About Birdie

Don’t look for her in any bar, club, crazy raging party, or anywhere there may be a large gathering of strangers. She’s more likely to be found tucked into the corner of the couch watching one of her favorite shows, or preferably under a comforter with her current novel.

        I do them when I can but I try to do one at least once weekly but, I’m definitely backed up for quite a time and they just keep rolling in <— this is not complaining, I love tags! They are always a joy to do!

    Oooh, this was such a fun tag, Birdie! I would so agree about burning the Twilight series and the Forbidden Game! You definitely made such a great choice with these. So much fun to read this! Great post. 😀

    Great answers! I remember reading the Forbidden Game as a teenager, I was so obsessed with LJ Smith (although I never got around to reading the Vampire Diaries… one day). I agree with you, the Forbidden Game wasn’t my favourite of hers.
    I have read the Twilight series through twice & I still have no idea what happened in Eclipse haha, goes to show how “great” the series was right?
    I haven’t read that Christopher Pike book, but I didn’t read his Thirst series & I absolutely love the way he writes vampires! SO GOOD!
    I’ve always wanted to read a Nora Roberts book, but I keep hearing how generic her books are that I don’t want to read any. I feel like there are a handful of generic writers out there. Okay this comment got really long ha! 😛

      LOL! I love long comments!

      Nora Roberts does follow an outline and her books are all very similar. But she’s very good and solid in what she does. And I love that I know exactly what I’m getting when I pick up her books. I know I’ll enjoy the ease of it, and it’ll feel familiar even if the story’s new.

        haha yay! I didn’t think it would get that long, turns out I had a lot to say ha! 😛
        That makes sense. Nora Roberts reminds me of Danielle Steele, all of her books are pretty much the same thing. My mum used to have stacks of her books so I starting reading those at … 12 I know kinda young, but after reading a bunch I feel like I figured it out. I kinda think Stephen King is the same way, as much as I love his work, I can’t read a lot of his work at one time or else I won’t enjoy it, but every once in a while it’s the best. Like a cozy blanket haha!

        Exactly! I’ve only read a couple Danielle Steele books, but I agree that they all do tend to follow a DS specific outline. Sometimes it’s just what you need though.

        Stephen King does have a similarity to his books too. One of them is his refusal to write a happy ending. That’s why I can only read them few and far between. I need a happy ending. Haha

        I can agree, although I haven’t read a DS novel in a very long time.
        Yeah that can get depressing real fast. His recent trilogy ended rather well, it wasn’t sad, so I enjoyed it. Talking about SK has me wanting to pick up a novel ha!

        I like it so far, but they get larger and larger and it’s such a time commitment, haha. I think the one I have next is 950 pages. That’s going to take up a large chunk of my time.

        I think that’s one of the longest. I think the beginning and the end is more manageable. But 950 pages is just too long for me these days. Not because I don’t like a long book, but just because time is precious.

        You do that too! I hate reading more than one book at a time. It’s not that I can’t focus I just only like to read one and feel accomplished when I’m done! (I’ve only broken the rule to read children books a chapter a day haha! 😛 )

        LOL!!!! The accomplishment is part of it, yep. But even more than that, I find it just doesn’t work. I like one more than the other and focus all my time and attention on that book. The only time I do two at a time is if one is an audio and I can listen in the car.

    Thanks for doing the tag! I’m definitely glad to see you kept The Curse of the Wendigo safe since I really do love that series even though I’ve only read the first two so far! I’m also glad to see the Newsflesh series is one of your favorites since I have the first book on my TBR! 🙂
