BookBum’s Questions

Q – A genre you want to try and read more of in 2017?

I feel like one of my strengths is my ability to jump around genres, so I’m not sure.  I think, maybe mystery.  It tends to be the one genre I rarely read, but when i do I love them.  I think I need to dive into some cozy mysteries and get my feet wet.

Q – One really hyped book you know you will NEVER read?

Simple.  Fifty Shades of Gray.  I have absolutely no urge to read it.

Q – A book you’ve been meaning to read for ages?

Jane Eyre, because it’s my Grandma’s favorite book.  She gave me an old copy she had, and it’s on my shelf waiting for me.  I just don’t really read a lot of the classics, so it just keeps getting pushed back.

Q – Favourite bookish quote?

I have so many, thankfully.  It means I can pick something new each time.

“Be careful about reading health books. Some fine day you’ll die of a misprint.”
Markus Herz

Q – If you could only read one book for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Outlander.  I will always pick Outlander.  It’s one of my best friends and if I have Oultander, I’m not alone.  Plus, who would give up Jamie.

Q – The last book to make you cry/overly emotional?

On Broken Wing by Chanel Cleeton.  I won’t say why, but I cried pretty hard at the end.

Q – An author you’ve tried and tried to get into, but just can’t?

There was a time I would have said Stephen King, but he wore me down.  I think I’ll go with Anne Rice.  I’ve tried and tried.  I just think her books are too dry.  Almost emotionless.

Q – Favourite book cover?

I love all of Maggie Stiefvaters art.  I love that she designs them herself, and my favorite is Blue Lily, Lily Blue.

Q – What is your reading goal this year and are you feeling positive about it?

I never change my reading goal.  It’s always 100 books.  Last year I was around 40 books over and I’m currently 4 books ahead, so right now I’m feeling positive.  That can change quickly though.

Q – Least favourite book of 2016?

Midnight Rescue by Elle Kennedy.  Elle Kennedy is a good writer, but her style is a little aggressive for my taste.  Midnight Rescue took a horrible subject matter, and she drove it to a place that I couldn’t go.  I forced myself through it, but I didn’t like it at all.

Q – (random) What would be your dream career?

I would love to be a published author.  It’s always been my dream, for as long as I remember.  If only I thought I was creative enough.  Maybe someday I’ll try again.

Irena’s Questions

Q – What are you currently reading? Are you enjoying it?

I just finished An Unseen Attraction (at the time I’m writing this), and I did really enjoy it.  When I finish typing this blog post up I’m starting The Queen & the Homo Jock King.  I’m sure I’ll like it.  I love this author.

Q – If you had a theme song, which song would it be?

Oh, this is a toughy.  My theme song… maybe Happy by Pharrell Williams… That song does make me feel good and want to dance.

Q – What is the last movie you’ve seen? Would you recommend it?

I’ve been watching a lot of television, so I think the last movie I saw is still A Monster Calls, and oh yeah I would recommend it.  It was really amazing!

Q – Besides reading, what are some of your other passions?

I’ve become pretty passionate about this blog.  When I’m not reading or working I spend my down time watching television, posting blogs, or visiting.  I also consider my feathered babies my passion.  I love this cute little mischievous face.

Q – What fictional world would you like to visit?

I was trying to come up with something new, but there’s really only one place I would choose first and that’s The Wizarding World.  I want to see it all too, not just Hogwarts.

Q – Now, let’s get back to real life – what is the place in real world you want to visit most?

I’ve always wanted to go to Scotland.  It’s real life, but the passion came from Outlander.  I want to visit a Scottish standing stone, or see the sites that Diana Gabaldon talks about.  I want to walk across Culloden see where the massacre took place.

Q – What’s your favourite mythological creature?

A Pegasus.  When I was a little girl I used to pretend I had an imaginary Pegasus.  He would fly next to the car next to us.  And the red blinking lights of the radio towers were Pegasus that had been tied down.  I had to shoot them free with my finger guns.  I was good at entertaining myself.

Q – Which is the last book, film or series that made you cry (or really sad)?

I cry every single time I watch This is Us.  I swear, whoever writes that show knows exactly how to pluck at the heartstrings but not make the viewer feel manipulated.  I love it.  It’s one of the best new shows on television.

Q – Do you have a favourite superhero? Who is it?

Hands down, it’s Batman!  I love that he’s more of a vigilante than a superhero, not having any actual superpowers.

Q – What superpowers would you like to have?

Does it make me sound like a psycho if I said I’d like to have the power to make anyone do whatever I say?  Like, the good guy version of Killgrave from Jessica Jones.

Q – Share one of your favourite quotes!

“’I’ve been waiting for you all night and day,’ she said.
Froi shivered. He realized that the words came from Quintana the ice maiden. Realized, as he felt his face heating up, that the idea of this Quintana waiting for him with excitement spoke to parts of him he believed to be dormant. And then she winked.
‘Did I do that right?’ she asked. Her smile was lopsided and he saw a glimpse of the teeth.
And Froi imagined that he would follow her to the ends of the earth.” ― Melina Marchetta, Froi of the Exiles

Nominations

I’ve decided not to nominate this round, due to having already nominated 11 people for the first, and 5 more for the second.  I would like to thank Irena and BookBum again for thinking of me.  It means a lot.

About Birdie

Don’t look for her in any bar, club, crazy raging party, or anywhere there may be a large gathering of strangers. She’s more likely to be found tucked into the corner of the couch watching one of her favorite shows, or preferably under a comforter with her current novel.

  1. I totally agree with you about 50 Shades! I’ll never bother reading it. Don’t put yourself down, I’m sure you could write a book! Also, I loved Killgrave from Jessica Jones lol, good super power choice! 😀 Great answers!

  2. First off HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! 😀 I hope it’s going swell, and you are eating cake! 🙂
Haha I loved reading your answers. That first quote haha, that was a good one. Your story about Pegasus was so cute! I used to pretend we had a horse who rode next to us while driving, but obviously it’s not as creative as yours haha! Which leads me to say that you should totally try to write a book, you seem to have creativity to me! 🙂
