Simon Homo Sapiens Agenda

Baby Chick’s Pick – March 2017
Simon vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli

When I picked this up to read it, I was already in the middle of a book.  I was at the bookstore and knew that I was going to love this.  (That’s not exactly how I remember it, Baby Chick…)  After I bought it, I read it in, like, three days.  (It was more like two days.)  -Mom!-  Anyways, back to the book.  I read it and I kept screaming because I didn’t want to put it down even though I had school in the morning.  I even tried to sleep with it under my pillow, but that was super uncomfortable.  So, basically I really really loved Simon vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda.

The author did a good job explaining how Simon felt.  She nailed the anger, love, and cuteness.  (Is that even a word, Baby Chick?)  -Shush it, mom!-  I loved the characters, how real they seemed.  I loved how Simon was so funny.  (Nothing about Blue?)  OH yeah!  Blue!  Wow, I loved Blue.  I wanted to name my new bird after him.  I’m not going to tell you who Blue is, I’ll just say I loved Blue.  He jokes around, but he’s serious when he needs to be.  Plus, he was a perfect fit for Simon.  They’re just adorable together.  (And they’re the real reason you stayed up all night to read, aren’t they?  Hmm?)  -You don’t know my life.-

I don’t want to say I didn’t like Leah, but in the whole book she was the one character that I found myself having a problem with.  I loved the idea of her, but I just don’t like how passive aggressive she was.  If I could have made some tweaks to the book, I would have changed the way that Leah treated Abby.  I could understand why she had a problem, because of Leah’s poor self-esteem making her jealous of Abby.  I just don’t like reading about meanness.  I also had problems with Martin.  I know I wasn’t supposed to like Martin, but most of the time I found him funny and cute.  There were even times I felt sad for him.  What I didn’t like about him was that he knew Simon is gay, but he blackmailed him, and still got jealous when the girls hugged him.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who’s looking for a quick, funny, and adorable read.  It’ll give you all the feels.  I’m really happy that I was able to read it, because they’ve started casting the movie.  And I HAVE to see see the movie, but first I must read the book!

Have you read this?  What do you think of Simon vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda? Baby Chick Sig

About Birdie

Don’t look for her in any bar, club, crazy raging party, or anywhere there may be a large gathering of strangers. She’s more likely to be found tucked into the corner of the couch watching one of her favorite shows, or preferably under a comforter with her current novel.
