AWARD QUESTIONS:

A book you started but never finished but want to finish. What stopped you from continuing to read it?

Hmm, only one… okay, I’m going to go with The Book Thief.Book Thief

I refuse to believe that I didn’t like it.  It sounds perfect for me, right up my alley.  There’s no conceivable reason why I shouldn’t like it.  I think that when I tried I just wasn’t in the mood for the seriousness of the story.  I’m definitely going to go back and try again, eventually.  When my schedule permits it.  That magical day in the world of ‘someday’.

What elements attract you to a book, which makes you need to read it?

First I look at the cover.  We all like to say not to judge a book by it’s cover, but the truth is that there are so many books out there that we have to start with the presentation first.  That’s reality.  After being attracted by the cover, I read the synopsis.  I can’t really tell what hooks me in a synopsis, it’s pretty wide.  I look more toward things that turn me off, like if the romance/plot sounds like fifty others I’ve read before.  If the synopsis sounds good, then I use my Goodreads app scanner and go look at the overall rating.  (I might be a little bit of a rating snob.)  Then I look at who rated it, and how they rated it.  I know who on my GR friend list shares my tastes.  I also tend to get turned off if a book is too hyped, so lesser known with a good rating, that usually makes the book a shoe in for me.

Which books do you prefer, e-copy or hard copy?

I don’t have an easy answer for this.  I will always prefer a hard copy, just because I have a love affair with printed books.  However, lately it’s been more convenient to read on my lighted Kindle.  I don’t have to worry about disturbing my birds while they sleep, or clamping a booklight, or holding a flashlight… but the books I truly loved, I always buy them in print.  (If you don’t own a bird, then you have no idea the temper tantrum that they can throw if you dare to turn a light on or make noise.  My Opie will put you in your place quick.)

What book are you currently reading or going to read?

I am currently reading The Inexplicable Logic of My Life.  And after, I’m playing to read Strays.

Is it fair to judge a book by its film?

Sometimes. It depends on the book and the film.  I think you could judge Harry Potter by it’s movie.  I think the movie is amazing and gives you an idea of the amazingness of the books.  The same is true of Lord of the Rings, or A Monster Calls.  In other cases, no.  The movie sucked and it’s not a fair representation of the book.

What book did you badly judge by its cover and end up loving?

Oh, far too many to really name fairly.  Here are two I’ve talked about on Birdie Bookworm already:

Which book character have you felt the most kin with and able to relate with?

Victor Bayne.  In fact, I wrote an entire post about how he’s my fictional twin.  You can read that here.

What YA book do you wish they’d accurately make into a movie?

 

Gone by Michael Grant.  I don’t think it should be a movie, but I would love to see a television network do this series.  Maybe on Sci-Fi or CW… it could be so good.

50 WORD STORY:

Tears streamed down her face as she watched him walk away.  It felt as though her heart ceased beating, while silently begged him to turn around.  Her eyes on his retreating back, knowing he would never again reassure her they were strong enough to withstand anything.  This time it was truly over.

Don’t look for her in any bar, club, crazy raging party, or anywhere there may be a large gathering of strangers. She’s more likely to be found tucked into the corner of the couch watching one of her favorite shows, or preferably under a comforter with her current novel.

    This is such a cool little award. This is only the second time I’ve seen it, and it keeps get more interesting. Your story was so good, Birdie! So moving for only 50 words. And oh gosh, I have not seen a bird temper tantrum, but I am quite scared to now. XD and the Gone series would have made such a fanatastic show. There was this Netflix series…Between I think it was called that seemed a lot like Gone to me that worked well as a series (or so I think since I never got around to watching it). Thanks so much for the nomination, Birdie! I will definitely be doing this one soon! 😀 thanks again and wonderful post!

      Was that the show that had the girl from iCarly in it? I think I started watching it but didn’t continue. It did remind me of Gone, lol.

    I actually agree with you on the Harry Potter series being movies. Unfortunately I only read the first theee books (way back when they first came out) but from what I remember the movies were very close to them.

    Thanks for nominating me! 😀 I could totally seen Gone as a TV show; although I don’t know how long I would want it. I feel like it might turn into an Under the Dome situation where they run out of content from the book and want to make it longer, but they start creating things and it just does’t work. But who knows!

      That’s true, when I was reading it I just thought it worked out really well with every book in the series taking on another large problem. Gone being about the disappearance of the adults, Hunger being about the food running out, Plague about the sickness, etc. My biggest issue is the kids should be older than 14 like in the book.

        I can see every season being like one of the books, but I feel like it would have to be short seasons you know, in order to not deviate too much from the original story…
        But I would love to see it brought to the TV side of things. Maybe even a mini series could work!

    Awesome answers! Your fifty word story is heartbreaking. It's amazing how much emotion a mere fifty words can carry.

    I'm with you on movie adaptations. There are so very few movies upon which a book can be fairly judged. I have a friend who adores the Mortal Instruments series and she gets so frustrated whenever a new adaptation is released, simply because it cannot live up to the books. I have yet to watch 'A Monster Calls' but I've heard nothing but positive things, so I'm really excited to compare it against the book ❤

    This is a cool tag! I loved your mini story at the end, now I want to read more. Oh my gosh, Gone would make such a great tv series! There are enough characters and content to keep it going for a few seasons too. How are you enjoying Inexplicable Logic of My Life?
