Diversity Spotlight Thursday was created by Aimal @ Bookshelves & Paperbacks.  (The link takes you to her original Diversity Spotlight post, where she talks about her motivation for creating this meme.  You should check it out.)

As I was searching for another meme to participate in I was especially drawn to Diversity Spotlight Thursday.  I do love the idea of sharing books with a wide range of characters, but it was also because I’m always on the hunt for reading material that showcases people who are different from myself.

The way it works is simple.  You select three books to highlight each week, using this format:

  1. A diverse book you have read and enjoyed
  2. A diverse book that has already been released but you have not read
  3. A diverse book that has not yet been released

I really enjoyed The Inexplicable Logic of my Life.  It was introspective story about three friends, and while it doesn’t have a lot of action there was a lot to enjoy anyway.  Plus, the main character was adopted by a Mexican American family and they were the most amazing family I’ve ever read.

I’d been waiting this release with so much excitement, and now that it’s out I haven’t actually read it.  I’m planning on remedying it this month, and I really can’t wait.  It’s getting amazing reviews.

I’ve only read one book by Adam Silvera, but it made me eager for more.  This book sounds really good, but maybe sad too.  (I also think the cover is really beautiful.

Are there any Diverse books that you’re looking forward to reading, or one that you loved?

Don’t look for her in any bar, club, crazy raging party, or anywhere there may be a large gathering of strangers. She’s more likely to be found tucked into the corner of the couch watching one of her favorite shows, or preferably under a comforter with her current novel.

    I have read The Inexplicable and it was okay. I will start THUG this weekend! 😊 I also recommend It’s Not Like It’s a Secret & The Upside of Unrequited. They are great diversity reads!

        I loved Simon too, well Blue more since his role was much less in that book haha I hope you enjoy THUG! That book is so famous on twitter. Everyone has been tweeting about it. 😊

    I’m looking forward to all three! I loved Ari & Dante and History Is All You Left me so I’m excited to read a second book by the same author. And I’ve just ordered THUG and I’m really happy I can finally start reading it 🙂

    I have the audio for The Inexplicable Logic of My Life ready for when I finish the audio for The Hidden Oracle. The Hate U Give is one of those books that I feel like it’s really hard to talk to people about because of what it means to me as a black female-bodied person. I dig these posts. Happy reading!

        I did. I loved it. I’ve been waiting for it for quite some time. It, All-American Boys, and How It Went Down are the foundational books for my dissertation. But it’s also a book I don’t know how to talk to people about, you know? Many of Starr’s experiences are similar to mine, and the people in my orbit are the same ones who say that Get Out was a racist movie.

        I totally understand that. It’s hard to talk to people about something that feels so personal to us. Especially when we’re not sure how it’ll be received. I actually hadn’t heard of the other books or movie, but they all look really good and intense. I’ll have to add them to my to read/watch. 🙂
