Where do I start with The Quantum Ghost… I suppose we should step back for a second and discuss my review of The Quantum Door.   Basically I really liked the book, particularly the brothers, but my biggest critique was that story felt very disjointed without a clear beginning, middle, and end.  I felt like there was just far too much jumping around, and it may have benefited from being two books instead of one. I’ve also recently said that same thing about another sci-fi book, and questioned if maybe it was just a science fiction thing.  Is it a trait of Sci-Fi to have the characters bounce all over the solar system, or parallel universes?

Thankfully The Quantum Ghost didn’t follow that same path… or I guess I should say thankfully for me, since I’m the one that was bothered.  The Quantum Ghost built on the anticipation really well.  It was well paced, and I felt myself becoming more interested in the resolution of the story.  I thought it was especially interesting, because of how the story was connected to The Quantum Ghost.  It included the things I liked, and tweaked the parts that bothered me.

From there it only got better.  While I think I’m still partial to Brady and Felix’s brotherhood, I did enjoy reading about Remi.  There were times I thought she spoke and acted older than a 12 years old, but then I think I’m biased because that’s the age of my daughter.  I think as parents, we’re naturally biased.  I like to think she’s younger than she is.  Remi was probably exactly how twelve year olds imagine themselves.  She was smart and brave.  Spunky.

I don’t want to spoil the story at all, but there were some surprises that I loved!  I was worried about connecting the two books when I started, but my worries were all for nothing.  I was really happy with the little surprises and twists.  (If you read this one, you’ll know what I’m talking about.)  And the ending was perfect.  The author nailed one of my favorite resolution tropes, and it wound up being my favorite part of the story.

I’m glad I had the opportunity to read The Quantum Ghost.
