Wowzer!  If there’s one thing I can say about the Ilona Andrews writing team, it’s that they are so consistently good!  I don’t think I’ve ever given them less than 4 stars.  Everything they write exceeds my expectations.  And, I actually think Mad Rogan knocked Curran, the Beastlord, right out of first place as their sexiest hero!  I love Rogan! *swoon*  

The cover though… I don’t even know what to do with it.  Yes, there was an ice cave… yes, Rogan was bare.  Still, that is not Mad Rogan.  That is NOT Nevada.  And there was no seductive overly sexual posing in said ice cave!  wrong Wrong WRONG.  I hate thinking anyone would look at these covers and judge the books, because they’re not more than the cover, they are actually nothing like the cover!  There’s a vibrancy and depth to these books that isn’t remotely captured in the image.  They deserve something so much more creative.

Whew, anyway… series reviews are always harder for me, because I feel like everything I said in the first review is still accurate.  Rogan and Nevada had heat off the charts.  I love the fire they both have individually and I love how it erupts like a volcano around each other.  It’s delicious and I devour it.  I also love the world.  I’d love to live in a world of mages (in theory).  There’s something about magical powers that really gets me going.  I’ve loved these types of paranormal’s ever since I was a young teen discovering The Secret Circle.  I can’t get enough of it, so I love that Ilona Andrews tackled magic in this series.

Again, I love how feisty and capable Nevada was, but she still felt like someone I might know.  She’s just a normal woman, wanting to live a normal life but can’t.  I’d actually prefer for her to stay more normal, but I don’t think I’m going to get my wish.  I also enjoyed delving into Rogan’s psyche.  I want to know what makes him tick, and with every story, or memory, I found myself falling for him deeper and deeper.  They’re both such well developed characters, which isn’t surprising because I think this writing duo does that exceptionally well.

What I think I loved the most, aside from Rogan, was how much information we’re slowly getting about Nevada’s family.  In the first book I felt like most of the focus was on Nevada and Bern, but in White Hot we learn more about Leon, Arabella and Catalina.  I hope this remains a trend, because I really like Nevada’s family and I want to know more about each of them.  I also enjoyed Cornelius and Matilda, and I’m happy Bug was still around.  I have a feeling these side characters are going to be just as special to me as the main characters.

The best thing about finishing White Hot was that I already have an ARC of Wildfire!  I’m not jumping right in, my blogging schedule wouldn’t allow it, but I am staring at my calendar and counting down the days.  I can’t wait for more!  Even if these books were 3000 pages, I’d still be ravenous for more.

Don’t look for her in any bar, club, crazy raging party, or anywhere there may be a large gathering of strangers. She’s more likely to be found tucked into the corner of the couch watching one of her favorite shows, or preferably under a comforter with her current novel.

    Despite being an avid romance reader, I have to be honest I did look at the cover and burst out laughing! It’s even funnier now that you’ve said there is no mention of overly sexual posing in the ice cave 😛 I look at these kinds of covers and think “Do people actually pose like this with their significant others?” If so, I’ve clearly been dating the wrong people! 😛
    Awesome review! Nevada sounds like an awesome character. I do love a strong, feisty female lead 😀

    That’s so funny what you said about the cover because I honestly find those steamy unrealistic scenes a huge *roll my eyes* turnoff! Haha. I will take the book more seriously now. Glad you enjoyed it!

    I really like that Nevada is growing in her powers. I think that anyone who doesn’t understand where Mad is coming from, or how he gets so absorbed in his magic, wouldn’t be a feasible match for him. I love how hard she is working to harness her magic. It was one of my favorite parts of this book.

      I just really loved the dyanmic between him being a Prime and her being on the lower end. I loved that break from the norm, both in other UF’s and in this world that AI created. I would have enjoyed it more if her strengths weren’t magical.

        Interesting. I see their bond grow because of how he encourages her with her magic, and I wonder how it would have grown otherwise. I guess I never saw her as normal – just not having fully come into her powers yet. I feel like their dynamic has always hinged on her magic, and him knowing more about it than she does.

        Oh yeah, that’s all true. I like that he’s helping her too. I like that she has magic. I just didn’t want her to also be a Prime. Maybe because the authors did the same thing with Kate and Curran.

        Maybe. I just loved the different playing fields. I loved that Rogan was Prime but emotionally off kilter, and that Nevada wasn’t a Prime but she’s got her shit together mostly. She’s the solid one, and he’s too aggressive. Plus, I always look for books with female characters that show strength in the non-traditional ways. BUT, I love the series and I love Nevada and Rogan, so for a gripe, it’s a very very minor one for me.

      I started with Kate Daniels, but the first book is a huge info dump and it turns a lot of people off. Maybe try starting with this series. It’s really excellent.
