Diversity Spotlight #9

Diversity Spotlight Thursday was created by Aimal @ Bookshelves & Paperbacks.  (The link takes you to her original Diversity Spotlight post, where she talks about her motivation for creating this meme.  You should check it out.)

As I was searching for another meme to participate in I was especially drawn to Diversity Spotlight Thursday.  I do love the idea of sharing books with a wide range of characters, but it was also because I’m always on the hunt for reading material that showcases people who are different from myself.

The way it works is simple.  You select three books to highlight each week, using this format:

  1. A diverse book you have read and enjoyed
  2. A diverse book that has already been released but you have not read
  3. A diverse book that has not yet been released

A Diverse Book I Have Read and Enjoyed

Skin after Skin

Maybe it’s because I just read this book, or because it’s one of my favorite series, but I really love how diverse JCP’s cast is.  What I really love is that it’s a diverse book that isn’t about diversity.  They’re just a group of every day diverse friends, and I love it.

A Diverse Book That Has Already Been Released, but I Have Not Read

Seafarers Kiss

(Lord, I just love that cover!)  This book has been out a while, and I’ve heard so many good things.  Out of all the LGBT books I’ve read, I’ve never read one that was F/F, and this looks the perfect book to delve in.  I just need to get my grabby little hands on it.

A Diverse Book that Has Not Been Released

Renegades

I’m taking a wild guess with this one.  Lunar Chronicles was pretty diverse, and even though it wasn’t my favorite I can’t help but really want Renegades.  I’m really hoping that Marissa Meyer doesn’t let us down and this new group of superheroes brings all the diversity!

Are there any Diverse books that you’re looking forward to reading, or one that you loved?

About Birdie

Don’t look for her in any bar, club, crazy raging party, or anywhere there may be a large gathering of strangers. She’s more likely to be found tucked into the corner of the couch watching one of her favorite shows, or preferably under a comforter with her current novel.

  1. My wife had challenges with the diversity in the Lunar Chronicles. She said she felt like it was diversity for the sake of and that none of it really affected the story. She also got tired of the heteronormativity. I didn’t find it as problematic as she did, but I hope that Renegades would be more to her liking diversity-wise.

  2. That Marissa Meyer cover really is stunning. I still haven’t read Heartless, and after reading some of the reviews, I’m not sure I want to. I don’t think she’s an author for me.

Not surprised to see JCP up there. 🙂

  3. ‘Skin After Skin’ sounds like a great read, although looking at it on Amazon I see it’s book 8 in the series …I think it would be advisable for me to start at book 1 perhaps, so I can get a feel for the characters 😀

  5. I hadn’t heard about the Psycop series but I’ve just bought the first one! It sounds interesting and I do sometimes like stories that have diversity in them without it being the focus of the plot. Great post!
