Lia posted this tag over on her blog Lost in a Story, and it honestly looked like so much fun! I had to swipe it!  I liked the idea of throwing character I’ve read into each scenario and figuring out who the better bet would be.

Basically the rules of the game are that you choose 30 characters from books you’ve read, and then pick two randomly for each question.  From the two, pick the better selection to answer the question.

I chose to do this by going to my Goodreads Read shelf and sorting it by random (which is an option in batch settings).  I wanted to use characters even from books I read a long time ago, and this was the best way to jog my memory.  I also chose to rotate between boy and girl characters so I had an even number of both.  Just to keep it extra random.

You only have one more spot on your spelling bee team, who would you pick to complete your team?

Noah Monroe (Illegal Contact) vs Jamie Canning (Him)

This is a tough pick!  I think both Jamie and Noah would both be great teammates in anything academic.  Jamie is an intelligent hockey player and I’d feel confident in his ability, but Noah seemed to focus more on his studies because he wanted to go into an academic field.  Jamie is very intelligent, but his goals were different.  I think I’m going to pick Noah, but no hard feelings Canning!

Both characters want to kill you, which one would you kill first so you have a better chance of surviving?

Puck (The Iron King) vs Natalie Grayson (Cream of the Crop)

Hmmm, Puck is Fae which means he’s got some surprises up his sleeve, cause of all the magic.  Still, Natalie is pretty fierce.  I kinda think I’m a little more afraid of Natalie, even if she’s human.  I think I’d rather take my chances against Puck.  Sorry Natalie, if watching The Challenge has taught me anything, it’s that you gotta take the Big Dogs out first.

You’re on the Bachelor/Bachelorette and you’re down to these two characters, which one are you going to give your rose to?

Jonah Griggs (Jellicoe Road) vs Perry Palomino (Experiment in Terror)

There is no contest here.  Perry is one of the most annoying characters I’ve ever read.  Jonah, on the other hand, was one of the most wonderful.  Jonah Griggs would definitely get my rose.  Perry would get shown the door!  #sorrynotsorry

You’ve been chosen for the Hunger Games, who would most likely volunteer in your place?

Jacob Black (Twilight) vs MacKayla Lane (Fever)

As much as I’m not a fan of Twilight, I do think Jacob is the kind of character to volunteer in my place.  As brave as Mac is, and as much as I want to choose her just on principle alone, I don’t think I can pick her.  I’m not sure she’s the ‘sacrifice myself for anyone’ type.  I think I have to hand this to the werewolf that’s not really a werewolf.  Jacob, may the odds be ever in your favor.

You’re stranded on an island, which character would you sacrifice to engage in cannibalism?

Ranger (Stephanie Plum) vs Eve Dallas (In Death)

Ranger definitely has more meat on them bones, but he’s also probably better at surviving on that island.  I know I’d need all the help I can get.  Eve is usually capable herself, but she’s all city girl.  Plus, she’s rangy and lean.  You also have to take the climate into account.  In Alive it was cold, so the bodies didn’t decay.  This is an island, which usually means hot.  Most of Ranger would be wasted.  I think I’d keep his smarts and we’d eat the NYC detective.  I’ll let Ranger break the news to Roarke.  He’s far more equipped.  Literally.

You’re the next DC/Marvel superhero (with your own tv show, of course), who is your sidekick?

Veronica Mars (Veronica Mars) vs Nancy Drew (Nancy Drew)

This is almost laughable!  Veronica Mars is nobodies sidekick!  If anything I would be her sidekick.  Nancy Drew isn’t really sidekick material either, but since she lacks that X Factor Veronica has, I guess I’ll go with her.  I think I’m more interesting than Nancy Drew.  I’m definitely not as cool as Veronica.

You’re a manager of an avocado admiring company, who would you fire for lack of communication skills?

Ronan Lynch (Raven Cycle) vs Raisa ana‘Marianna (Seven Realms)

Come on, guys.  This is hilarious, right?  I thought the last question was obvious, but this one really takes the cake.  In one corner we have the Princess Heir, who has been groomed in the art of communication.  And in the other corner we have ornery, mad at the world, Ronan.  I love Ronan, but he’d be so fired.  His lack of communication was basically a character trait.

You’ve just finished a book in which your favorite character dies, which character is most likely to comfort you?

Puck Connolly (Scorpio Races) vs Rose Hathaway (Vampire Academy)

Here we have two girls that aren’t really the comforting type.  Puck is prickly, and Rose isn’t really sympathetic.  If I had to go to one of them for comfort, I’d probably choose Puck, only because I liked her more.

Ugh, it’s High School.  Who would most likely be part of the popular clique?

Park Sheridan (Eleanor & Park) vs George Mason (Newsflesh)

Neither of them really.  George and Shaun kept to themselves.  I think people probably thought she was odd, especially with her eye issues.  Whereas Park only struggled with popularity because of the decade.  I think between the two, Park would definitely be first to fall in with the cool kids.  He is a very cool kid.

The day has arrived; you’re finally a year older!  Who would have the nerve to forget your birthday?

Nevada Baylor (Hidden Legacy) vs Vic Bayne (PsyCop)

Awww, Vic… we both know you would totally forget my birthday.  You’re not the best at remembering the little stuff, with everything going on in your life, and that’s okay.  It’s why I love you.  Even though Nevada would remember, and probably send a little card, you’re still my favorite.  You and I, we’re personality doppelgangers.  I understand you.

You’ve just found an upcoming BookTube star.  Who would it most likely be?

Gustavo Tiberius (How to be a Normal Person) vs Jondalar (Earths Children)

Gustavo Tiberius would make the best BookTube/YouTube star!  I can see it now!  He’d be grumbling about Casey making him do it, and how he isn’t going to read Casey’s Post-Apocalyptic/Dystopian/Paranormal teen series, feature love triangle between DesRinaDale.  He’s only going to talk about encyclopedias!  He’d be telling everyone that Casey was ‘YouTubeing’ him without his permission, and that he is not a hipster!  And yet, it would make for the most entertaining channel!  Jondalar, not so much.  He’s boring.

Sleepover time!  Unfortunately, you can only invite one person.  Who would you invite?

Atticus O’Sullivan (Iron Druid) vs Otter Thompson (Bear, Otter and The Kid)

Atticus.  Definitely Atticus.  I love Otter, so much.  I love Otter with Bear.  I love Atticus in a sleepover.  With me.  And his goatee.  Maybe Oberon too.

Bam!  You’re pregnant!  Who’s the other parent??

Baz Acker (Love Lessons) vs Mat Cauthon (Wheel of Time)

I would love to say Baz here.  I love the idea of helping Baz and Elijah start their family.  Unfortunately ‘Bam’ implies a surprise, and that’s just not going to work in my imagined scenario.  That means my only option is Mat.  I’m not unhappy.  He’s my favorite character in the Wheel of Time series, and he was the image on my computer screen for years and years.

You’ve just written a super important text.  Who would see it, but not reply?

Cletus Winston (Winston Brothers) vs Dex J Daley (THIRDS)

We don’t even need to talk about whether or not Dex would reply to my super important text.  I think he would, but I know that Cletus wouldn’t.  What’s important to me is probably not high on Cletus’s list of priorities.  Plus, I can’t imagine him doing anything as frivolous as replying to random text messages.  He’s a very important man, keeping everyone’s lives on a tight leash.

You’ve just woken up and it’s time for breakfast. Your mom or dad has been replaced by… who?!

Beth Randall (Black Dagger Brotherhood) vs Anna Cornick (Alpha & Omega)

Either woman would be a good parent.  With Beth I get a world of Vampires, with Anna I get to live among wolf shifters.  In one I get Wrath, in the other I get Bran.  I’d truly be pretty set in either family.  I think, if I go with my gut, I’ll pick Anna.  I like how laid back she is, how gentle.  I also love Bran, and Charles, and the entire pack.  It would be a good life.
