End of Summer Book Tag

Okay, so obviously it’s waaay past summer and that means I’m super late here.  BUT, it’s still fall which means the end of summer is still fresh in my mind.  Plus, I was nominated by Mandy at Book Princess Reviews and I can’t pass it up.  Thank you, Mandy!

Now, let’s go back in time 3ish months.

What was your favorite book this summer?

Nevernight

My summer favorite was really hard to choose!!  I finally narrowed it down to three, and then stared at them for a long time while I tried to pick my favorite.  In the end I’m deciding to go with Nevernight, only because it’s first in a series and it was awesome!  It was my first true Jay Kristoff book, and it was so well done I know it won’t be the last.  Especially because I’ll be reading Godsgrave very very soon.

What was your least favorite book this summer?

The Quarterback

I think a lot of my disappointment about The Quarterback came from my excitement to read it.  There wasn’t just one thing in particular, it was more about my overall love of sports romance.  I also liked the idea of meeting at a ‘massage’ parlor.  Unfortunately the story lacked the execution and it wound up feeling choppy and stunted.  It was definitely a let down.

What book did you wish you had read this summer?

the-hate-u-give

The Hate U Give is a book I’ve been saying I want to read for a long time now.  It’s so beloved, and it’s so relevant, I feel like it’s terrible that I haven’t read it yet.  But, if I’m being honest, I’m a little bit afraid too.  What if I don’t like it?  It’s a pretty important book right now, and to be one of the few who don’t, that’s not a club I want to be in.  I think that’s why I keep putting it off.

What was your favorite classic you read this summer?
If you didn’t read one this summer, than in general.)

I don’t read Classics….

Ugh, that was really hard to say.  This is another bookworm failure.  I feel like, as a reader, I should occasionally read the classics.  The problem is, whenever I try I just feel so bored.  It’s terrible.  It’s one of my biblioshames.

Did you stray into a different genre and pick up a new and exciting book?

No, not really.  I mean, I stopped reading as much adult romance and dove back into YA predominantly.  That’s not really a new genre though.  I also read a lot more Fantasy, but again, not new at all.  I like what I like, I suppose.

What was your favorite movie adaptation this summer?

IT2

Definitely IT!  Fantastic adaptation.  Very scary, perfect cast, and Pennywise was everything I was hoping for and more!  If you haven’t seen this movie yet, go do it!

What was your favorite New Release book?

Silence is Golden

YAY!  I had to pick Nevernight over Silence is Golden for favorite read of the summer, only because it felt wrong picking the third book of a series.  BUT, now I can talk about Silence is Golden!  This historical comedy series is everything!  You can’t take any of these characters seriously, and they will all make you laugh.  It’s so much fun, and I can’t wait for the conclusion!

TAG…. Anyone who wants to remember the summer!

I’m breaking this rule.  It’s November.  Summer is over.  However, if you’re trying to hold onto the warmth and sunshine, feel free to join in!  It’s always nice to get more recommendations!

About Birdie

Don’t look for her in any bar, club, crazy raging party, or anywhere there may be a large gathering of strangers. She’s more likely to be found tucked into the corner of the couch watching one of her favorite shows, or preferably under a comforter with her current novel.

  1. Wonderful answers, Birdie! I didn’t realize just how much summer was over until now. XD Loved your answers, though. I had the same fear with The Hate U Give, but it really does live up to the hype. And so sad when such promising books with good premises such as the The Quarterback fail because of execution. Great answers, though, and wonderful post as always! 🙂

  3. I feel the same about The Hate U Give…I don’t think I’ve seen a single review that rated it less than 5 stars. I’m also really afraid of how much it’s going to hurt me when I read it though lol.
