Top 5 Tuesday | Five Warm Winter Reads

I have a hard time coming up with seasonal books.  I don’t really read any books based on season.  Luckily I did have 4 that popped into my mind when I started thinking about wintery/Christmasy books that I loved.

I chose two from my childhood, one from my teenage years, and two I read in the last few years.  I’m looking forward to seeing what everyone else picked!

The Little Match Girl

People have argued that The Little Match Girl is depressing, and it’s not like I don’t see why they say that.  For me, there’s something beautiful in The Little Match Girl being reunited with her Grandma.  And, maybe I had a strange childhood, but this was one of my absolute favorite books to have read to me.

The Mitten

I think about The Mitten all the time.  Instead of ‘the straw that broke the camels back’ I imagine the cricket trying to squeeze into the mitten with the other animals to keep warm.  Has anyone else read The Mitten?

Into the Wilderness

There isn’t anything particularly Christmasy or wintery about Into the Wilderness.  I think it’s just that I read it in the winter, and it’s such a saga that it just feels like a book you should read in the winter, under a blanket, with the snow falling outside.

Winter Oranges

Winter Oranges isn’t my favorite romance, but it there’s something magical about the story.  It’s a great one to read in the winter, thinking of snow globes, and romances that cross time and barriers.  Actually, I think I loved this more than I thought I did.

Winter Wonderland

I did love Winter Wonderland.  It’s definitely my favorite winter/Christmas story.  I love the way these two meet, and the town, and the entire group.  I haven’t actually read the rest of the series, but only because I’m afraid I won’t love it as much as Winter Wonderland!

About Birdie

Don’t look for her in any bar, club, crazy raging party, or anywhere there may be a large gathering of strangers. She’s more likely to be found tucked into the corner of the couch watching one of her favorite shows, or preferably under a comforter with her current novel.
