2017 Goodreads Year in Books!

Another year down, another year of reading on Goodreads.

I think this is my favorite Goodreads feature, simply because I love seeing my yearly book totals broken down.  I’m such a dork, but it’s like getting even more intimate with my reading year.

I also love sharing my totals with you!
I hope to see your break down too.

Total Books/Pages

pages read.JPG

While I did hit my Goodreads goal of 100 books this year, I wasn’t nearly as productive as last year.  I went down 19 books, and 4662 pages.  I do think I read more short stories last year, so that’s what helped with my number of books.  (It’s almost like cheating, I think.)  However, that doesn’t explain my page drop.  I’m not unhappy with this, since in the past I’ve struggled to hit 100.  I’m still kicking butt, and I still think I owe that to blogging!

Book Length

length

Maybe A Conjuring of Light isn’t as long as last years Winter, but it sure was a better read!  It was 624 pages of a book I loved, so it ended feeling like it was only about 300 pages.  And then, anything written in the Captive Prince world feels epic, so it doesn’t matter that Charles, the Veretian Cloth Merchant was only 26 pages.  It was still a fantastic little story all its own.  My average page length didn’t change much.  I’m not surprised.  That is the book page length I’ve come to favor as an adult.

Popularity

Popular

I felt like I read a lot of popular books this year, so I was a little surprised to see All the Bright Places was the most read book on my shelf.  I’m not surprised because it was bad, it wasn’t.  I just wasn’t aware so many other Goodreads members had read it.  On the other hand, I’m not surprised that so few have read Symbols.  It wasn’t a good read, and I don’t recommend it to anyone.  (Though, I do like the cover.  Not the naked chest, you perv.  I love the hummingbird.)

Average Rating

rating.JPG

This doesn’t really shock me either, and it didn’t really change much from last year.  Joining Goodreads, writing all these reviews, I’ve discovered that a book has to be REALLY bad for it to get less than a 3, and most books get a 4 star rating from me.  I’m easy to please!

Overall, Highest Rated

rated

Okay, so it’s TJ Klune, and I am ecstatic that he has such a high rating.  I just, I’m the kind of person who compares the average rating to how many people have read the book.  The more people who’ve read it, the higher the rating, the better I think the book will be.  Right now, because it’s a recent release, The Consumption of Magic only has 546 ratings.  If we want to be fair, still looking at TJ Klune, The Queen and the Homo Jock King should be here.  I read it in 2017, it has 2154 ratings, and it’s still at a 4.43 average.

About Birdie

Don’t look for her in any bar, club, crazy raging party, or anywhere there may be a large gathering of strangers. She’s more likely to be found tucked into the corner of the couch watching one of her favorite shows, or preferably under a comforter with her current novel.

Why am I not surprised that TJ Klune is your highest rated Wendy? And I’m also easy to please. To give less than 3 stars the book has to really be badly written.

Holy, this was such a cool post. I’ve been thinking of posting my Goodreads year on my blog for a while now and I think you have definitely motivated me to do it! ❤

      1. Nope but I have another one of her books….I forgot the title….I think it’s a standalone one. I haven’t read it though. Did you know that she’s going to write more books set in the Shades of Magic world? I can’t wait! I hope it features Kell and Lila!

  3. Wow, it looks like you had an awesome reading year! Don’t worry, I get super dorky about my reading stats too!
Did you enjoy The Inexplicable Logic of My Life? I’m only a few pages in and so far I’m not so sure about it.

Glad you had a good reading year! I still have yet to check my GoodReads year in books (I love this feature though) but can’t wait to do so 🙂

  5. Well done on reading so many books! Yeah I didn’t realise so many people had read All the Bright Places cos I read it a while ago and the numbers weren’t even nearly as high- not complaining though, it’s a great book 😉 And I get what you mean- I think the majority of the books I read end up being somewhere around 4*. Awesome wrap up!
