This weeks Top 5 Tuesday was really eye opening! I didn’t even realize how much I plan for Fantasy books to dominate my reading in 2018!
4 out of 5 series I chose below are Fantasy series, or a subtype of fantasy. Huh… I guess I see what this years trend will be.
Top 5 Tuesday was started by Shanah at Bionic Book Worm!
Gentleman Bastard by Scott Lynch
The Lies of Locke Lamora has been on my TBR shelf for years now. Last year I bought it in print, and yet it still sits on my bookshelf unread.
2018 is going to change that! I can’t say I’ll read all of them, but I’ll definitely start it! It’s practically a resolution!
Immemorial Years by TJ Klune
I have very few TJ Klune books left to read. There’s only two standalones, and the Immemorial Years left. I plan to read all of them this year, but I’m definitely staring here. I’ve heard these are the most brutal of all TJ’s books, so I’ve put them off. No longer. I’m ready to be hurt.
Dancing by Heidi Cullinan
This is another series that’s been on my TBR forever! I’ve always put it off in favor Heidi’s other series, and I’m done looking at other reads first. The covers call to me, and I can’t wait to read this romance series.
The Gold Seer Trilogy by Rae Carson
I don’t believe I’ve ever read a book by Rae Carson, even though I know she’s a popular Fantasy author. I’ve made eyes at Walk the Earth a Stranger for a long time, but never committed. Well, a few weeks ago I bought the first book. I think maybe Angie is going to read it with me this year, and I can’t wait!
Falling Kindoms by Morgan Rhodes
I also want to read the Gold seer series and I second the Lynch series.
Lynn 😀

Have you read the Lynch books? I’ve heard such good things about them!

I think we can fit both of those series in this year! And I do want to read The Lies of Locke Lamora, but I am really nervous about that one. I am wondering if I’ll like it for the long haul.
TJ Klune? Where is my surprised face. 😉

I really want to read The Gold Seer series! I have read her other series and remember really enjoying it!

I’ve heard so many people say that. I know her other series is more popular, there’s just something about the cover of the Gold Seer series that I love.

Ooo, I really want to read the Lies of Locke Lamora as well! I won’t put it on a list of books I want to read in 2018 though because I never end up reading the books I put on those kind of lists hahaha.

LOL!! That’s really smart! It’ll help you actually get to it. 🙂

That sounds like fun! I’m really bad at buddy reads but if I can clear some time I’ll send you a message 🙂

I’m pretty awful at Buddy Reads too, because I tend to zoom through, or go too slow. I get it. 🙂

Same here! Or I stay on track and then life gets in the way. Struggles!

I’m actually surprised! I feel like the last person on the planet that hasn’t started The Gentleman Bastard series! It’s definitely first on my list of new series to start.

I picked up the audiobook of TLoLL on a whim last year, and I have to say I was expecting to only like it only to be bored for the first three hours. And then I couldn’t stop. It became one of my top reads of the year (and all time too). I hope that you enjoy it as much as I did; it is quite a ride. And I also want to try a Rae Carson book this year, though I’m torn between WOEAS and The Girl of Fire and Thorns.

Everyone loves The Girl of Fire and Thorns, but something about Gold Seer pulled to me.
I’ve heard so many people say that about LoLL, and it’s on made me want to read it more and more. I can’t wait! Maybe I’ll even read the first one this month.

Good luck with these! I’m trying to make myself not start any new series until I finish a few but we’ll see how long my resolve lasts, haha.

Haha! I think I managed to finish a few series last year, but I’m not going to look and check I’d rather be naive.

Ambitious list! Especially the Falling Kingdom series, however, that is a good series from what I remember! I’ve read the first two but it was years ago, I wanna reread them and get through that series at some point (hopefully this year as well). Let me know when you do and if you want to possibly do a reading group for it? Good luck!

Oh, that would be awesome! I’ll definitely let you know. I’ve heard that the third book is when the series really starts getting good. The list is super ambitious. I don’t think I’ll get all the series read, but hopefully I start them.

Awesome! I’ve heard that as well, so hopefully. You never know! You’ve got a pretty good track record for reading books it seems! 🙂

If those two books are supposed to be some of the more brutal of Klune’s i’m not sure if I’m going to like them or not…just meaning some aspects of Into this River we Drown were SO BEAUTIFUL but that was too much angst for me! Still I can think back to certain scenes and am absolutely so taken in by what I remember so it’s not like it was a bad reading experience at all, just too much for my personal tastes.

Into this River I Drown was beautiful, but angsty. I just finished Immemorial Years, and I wouldn’t use angsty to describe it. It was a rough read though. Mostly because the characters mean something to you and their world is so harsh and awful.

Yeah I’ll get to Immemorial Years later this year. I think I’ll go for some short Klune next month (John and Jackie) which seems like it’ll be sad but also wistful and a bit bittersweet. U___U
