Top 5 Tuesday | 5 Excellent Hype Books

Top Five

I perpetually run from overly hyped books, so it wasn’t easy to come up with five.  I also noticed that most of them tend to be Fantasy, so when I do get bold it tends to only be in that genre.

I have a feeling these may be on a few of our lists today.

Top 5 Tuesday was started by Shanah at Bionic Book Worm!

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

Six of Crows was a majorly hyped book, and I wasn’t planning to read it at all.  I didn’t read The Grisha books, and so I wasn’t interested.  Until I saw it in the bookstore, that is.  This book is absolutely gorgeous, and that’s all the motivation I needed.  Not only it is beautiful, but it is well worth all the hype.

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han

I was so unbelievably turned off by the cover of these books.  I think I’ve been burned by the frou frou YA romance novels too many times.  I know it’s almost like blasphemy, but I’m not a fan of Sarah Dessen, and I felt pretty confident that Jenny Han would be similar.  Whether they are or aren’t, I ended up really enjoying this trilogy.  I’m one of her fans hoping for a spin-off.

Wonder Woman by Leigh Bardugo

This is a series that I wanted to collect because they were superheroes, and they are from multiple authors.  However, I still wasn’t sure I wanted to read Wonder Woman.  I’m not a huge fan of Wonder Woman so even though it was written by Leigh Bardugo (and I love her) I was ready to write this one off.  I was so wrong!  It was awesome!  I should never have doubted Bardugo!

Warbringer

Nevernight by Jay Kristoff

I think my big problem with Nevernight was the fact that Jay Kristoff intimidated me.  I don’t even know why.  Maybe it was because I really wanted to be a fan, but I feared I wouldn’t be.  Anyway, this is another one that tricked me into reading it because it’s so beautiful.  That cover is amazing!  It really fits the brilliance of the story inside.

A Darker Shade of Magic by VE Schwab

VE Shwab is a very beloved author.  When I started blogging I felt like everyone was talking about VE Schwab, and I was skeptical.  Nothing about the cover pulled me in, which I hate to admit is what really turns the tide for me and the hyped books.  But, I bought the trilogy on a whim and fell madly in love.  This woman can write.

About Birdie

Don’t look for her in any bar, club, crazy raging party, or anywhere there may be a large gathering of strangers. She’s more likely to be found tucked into the corner of the couch watching one of her favorite shows, or preferably under a comforter with her current novel.

  1. I have to admit I much preferred the UK covers of the Shades of Magic series, I wasn’t such a fan of the US covers. Nevernight has the most gorgeous cover, it definitely makes me more tempted to pick it up!

Yessss to the All the Boys I’ve Loved Before series. I gobbled up all three in one week ❤ The first remains my favorite though just cause I think it's hilarious how Lara Jean and Peter get together.

  3. It’s funny you mention your intimidation of Jay Kristoff! That’s why I held off from reading his books for so long! Everyone seemed to love him and I loved him as a person because of his Twitter account. I was obsessed with his Twitter because he was just so funny and he fascinated me as a person. I think I was afraid that his books would take that away from me lol!
Thanks so much for participating – added you to the list! 🙂

  4. I love your interpretation of this week’s prompt! I tend to stay away from super-hyped books as well; I never think they can live up to their reputation, so it’s really cool when they do.
I’ve heard of most of these but the only one I’ve actually read is A Darker Shade of Magic and I am of the 0.01% of the internet that…*whispers* did not like the book at all.

  5. Loved SoC! ❤ Still gotta read WW: Warbringer (despite having bought it as soon as it came out). lol I still need to read Crooked Kingdom, too. Great post! The others you included on this list are ones I really want to check out at some point as well. Good to know they live up to all the hype! 😀
