Family and Medical Update

Just an update, and a little information.  Things haven’t really gotten better.  The infection is under control, the PICC line is out, but the ulcer in his foot isn’t healing.  The bones in his toes are now so compromised and brittle that the chances of a relapse are high even if we could get the wound closed.  Basically what it comes down to is, do we want to fight this wound for whoever knows how long, only to be back in this position again in a year, or do we move ahead with a partial amputation of his foot to remove all the damage?

It’s funny because when all this started our big worry was that he would lose his foot.  It’s what originally sent us running to the ER.  Now, it’s almost a relief thinking of just having all the bad gone, even if also means part of his body.  The fight has been so long, almost 3 years, so exhausting that we’re ready for it to be over.  The good news is the doctor is telling us that, baring complications, with a partial amputation my husband should be back to work, full physical capacity, by January.  The rough news is, we’re not sure how we’re going to manage our financial responsibilities for another 3 months, let alone get through the holidays.  It’s hard to feel good when you’re struggling to stay afloat and every time you get good news, it’s followed up a week later with a bigger setback.

Anyway, I wasn’t sure if I was going to write another post about my family woes.  I figured I’d post about the amputation surgery in my September recap next week and just be done with it.  Instead I feel prompted to write something because of my sister-in-law.  Today she started a GoFundMe for my husband and his financial concerns about providing for me and Baby Chick.  I feel like, if she could do this for us then I should share it.  If you’re interested in checking it out, the picture below is the link.  GoFundMe

I won’t be posting this anywhere on my blog, or sharing the link on twitter or anything.  I’m really only going to write about it this once.  Even though I do talk about my personal life, Birdie Bookworm is the place I usually go to set aside my stresses so deciding to share this fundraiser here wasn’t easy for me.  I love all you guys, our online community, and I’d never want you to feel pressured.

Thanks for reading and being my blogging friends.

About Birdie

Don’t look for her in any bar, club, crazy raging party, or anywhere there may be a large gathering of strangers. She’s more likely to be found tucked into the corner of the couch watching one of her favorite shows, or preferably under a comforter with her current novel.

      1. I have heard that Josh and Hazel's Guide to Not Dating by Christina Lauren is AMAZING. I literally JUST bought the audiobook. When Sally Thorne (The Hating Game) gushes over a book, I know I need it!

      2. She posted this in her Facebook group:

        I. Loved. This. Book. How lucky am I to get an advanced copy? So lucky.

This book? It’s pure. You’ll know what I mean when you read it. It’s joy and heart and so funny I had to mindfully clench my bladder. No book should be this bouncy and infectious but it IS. It’s parrots and cartwheels on the grass. It’s purple palms and burned pancakes. It’s the sweetest, most beautiful thing I have read in forever.

Hazel is a messy whirlwind with no filter. Josh is Mr Serious and her blueprint for Perfect, and how gentle he is with her craziness is truly special. They try very hard to not date each other. It’s magical. I gush.

It comes out on 4 September. Preorder it and get it and read it and tell all your friends.

  1. Beware Of The Reader

Oh Wendy, I am so sorry to hear all this! My dad has been amputated from one leg under his knee years ago and there is a life after that you know. Just to give you some hope. All my love and best wishes.
