Top 5 Tuesday | 2018 Books I Missed

Top Five

Top 5 Tuesday, you’ve made me sad!

I like YA.  I’ve read YA my whole life, and so what if I’m nearly 40.  It’s still one of my favorite types of books to read.  However, with that said, lately I haven’t felt an interest in picking one up.  I know I’ll always be a young adult reader, but 2018 has been a really emotional year.  I need very NOT emotional books.

So, my list is 5 books I was most excited for, but I still haven’t read.

Top 5 Tuesday was started by Shanah at Bionic Book Worm!

What If It’s Us by Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera

I bought this book.
It’s pretty.
I think maybe this one will be the first I pick up.  I just wanted a happy ending, and I feel like this doesn’t have one.
Bummer.

Thunderhead by Neal Shusterman

Haha, I own this one too.
I bought it when it first came out.
How gorgeous is that cover?
I love Neal.  I will read this.

Running With Lions by Julian Winters

I still love the cover of this book.
Total Foxhole Court vibes.
I think maybe I’ll actually read THIS next!
I hope it makes me feel happiness.

Vengeful by V.E. Schwab

Technically this is not YA.  Still, the sentiment stands.  Too intense.
I haven’t bought this one.
Yet.
I will.  And I will read the shit out of it.
I love Victoria Schwab.

Obsidio by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman

This is the only one I started.
My brain was too broken for the science so I put it down.
For now.
This is a series I know I’ll finish.

About Birdie

Don’t look for her in any bar, club, crazy raging party, or anywhere there may be a large gathering of strangers. She’s more likely to be found tucked into the corner of the couch watching one of her favorite shows, or preferably under a comforter with her current novel.

  1. You should definitely read What If It’s Us, I loved that book. I will confess that I may have cried at one point (I’ll cry at pretty much anything) but it’s not really a sad book. Most of it made me laugh and smile (and that includes the ending).

  2. Emma's Library

Vengeful is one of mine too and I have no excuses for not fully reading it considering VE Schwab is one of my favourite authors. I have a copy but I think it’s just waiting for me to get in the mood for morally grey characters and a lot of twisty action.

I also get where you are coming from with Obsidio. I found the science a little confusing at first too but once I pushed through it, I thought it was a phenomenal ending. I don’t think I would love this series though had it not been for the audiobooks. They really opened it up for me and made it more accessible because I didn’t always get along with the variety of media formats in the physical copies. I’m just so glad I gave it the chance to prove itself because it is now one of my favourite sci-fi series.

  3. Beware Of The Reader

I still have to begin with Illuminae! LOL I took a rain check on Top 5 Tuesday today due to family circumstances but if I had to venture some choices I’d say City of Brass and I Stop Somewhere …among many others!

  4. Great list! I love both Obsidio and Vengeful for very different reasons. Obsidio does make you use your brain, but I think it will fit the bill of what you’re looking for. Vengeful? Well. It’s Schwab. So, it’s brilliant and heart wrenching. Prepare yourself!

Running with Lions looks adorable! What is it about?

  5. YES to all of these. I’ve wanted to read them all (except Obsidio. I’ve read that one!) but have yet to get to them. I plan to read Thunderhead this month though. I bought it when it first came out and so I think I waited long enough to read it. What If It’s Us seems like it’ll be a wonderful read but I need to be in the mood for it haha. I think my heart will break after reading it and I’m not mentally prepared. Vengeful sounds so good and it makes me mad that I haven’t read it yet, especially since I love V.E. Schwab. And girl YAAAS!!! Foxhole court is my secret crack. I love that series and I’ve been wanting to read Running With Lions for a while since it reminds me of it 😀 Great list. Hope you get to them all soon!
