About the Book: Grim Reaper Charley Davidson is back in the final installment of Darynda Jones’ New York Times bestselling paranormal series!

Charley Davidson, Grim Reaper extraordinaire, is pissed. She’s been kicked off the earthly plain for eternity – which is the appropriate amount of time to make a person starkraving mad. But someone’s looking out for her, and she’s allowed to return after a mere hundred years in exile. Is it too much to hope for that not much has changed? Apparently it is. Bummer.

She’s missed Reyes and her daughter, Beep, but now that she’s back on earth, it’s time to put to rest burning questions that need answers. What happened to her mother? How did she really die? Who killed her? And are cupcakes or coffee the best medicine? It all comes to a head in an epic showdown between good and evil in this final smart and hilarious novel.

Finishing Summoned to Thirteenth Grave leaves me feeling a little bit emotional.

I flew through it so fast, not just this book but the entire series. It’s been years and years, so many years, since I read a series obsessively like this one. I forgot how cathartic it could be to just lose yourself into a world so completely. Maybe Charley Davidson won’t be my favorite Urban Fantasy ever, but for being that escape I’ve needed the last 2 months it will always be special to me.

Summoned to Thirteenth Grave ended up being the ending I was looking for. Over the course of the series I felt like there was no way everything, this extremely intricate plot that only seemed to grow, was going to be neatly wrapped up in the thirteenth installment. Yet, I was also concerned that in an effort to keep the story going, the story would take a turn for the worse. I needed a good ending, that left room for more. I needed one that left room for Beep.

Psst… I think I’m gonna get Beep!

I’m going to miss Reyes and the family. I’ve grown to love all of them, every single one of them. It’s true that most series in this genre have a wide cast of side characters there to help support the heroine, but for me there’s something special about Charley and Reyes group. Thankfully I feel good about the future of this world, because..

Not only was the story left open, but it was also given a hook. It only made me feel more positive about how we haven’t seen the last of Beep’s army, and I’m almost positive we haven’t seen the last of Charley and Reyes either.

Summoned to Thirteenth Grave was only the first act.
Now I’m just waiting for Darynda to admit it!

About Birdie

Don’t look for her in any bar, club, crazy raging party, or anywhere there may be a large gathering of strangers. She’s more likely to be found tucked into the corner of the couch watching one of her favorite shows, or preferably under a comforter with her current novel.
