This doesn’t happen very often.
I’m pretty good at expecting.
I’m not bragging. I think all of us have read enough we can generally judge a book accurately. I mean, trying to find books for this category caused me to find all books for next weeks T5T. That one was easy.
I finally figured it out, though.
Below are 5 books I didn’t expect.
Top 5 Tuesday was started by Shanah at Bionic Book Worm!
The Foxhole Court by Nora Sakavic
I knew going in I was going to love this book. It took me a long time to pick up, but I never doubted the plot. I have a weakness for books that pair sports and romance, so I was a shoe in. What was not expected was how wack this book was! I was right, I did love it. I loved it despite the fact that it’s the book equivalent to a Quentin Tarantino movie. I am not a fan of Quentin Tarantino. I am a fan of The Foxhole Court.
The Girl with All the Gifts by MR Carey
I was so excited when I saw this book. I was in a zombie phase and I thought this book was going to be the best of all. It wasn’t. I’m in the minority but for me, The Girl with all the Gifts was boring. I was mostly bored, and then I was actively annoyed when it ended. (It’s a story where I have very little memory of the read. The movie totally store the show.)
Finding Fraser by KC Dyer
Someone pointed out that this book was all ploy, and I didn’t listen. It sounded like my daydreams. Being young, unattached, and flying to Scotland to find my own real life Jamie Fraser… *sigh*… Yeah, well it should have stayed in my daydreams. This book threw tar on my daydreams. I think this heroine needs her money back. She got shafted.
The Sea of Tranquility by Katja Milley
This was a really good book. I read it once, and I listened to it on audio. It’s good. I never doubted it was good. What I didn’t expect, upon seeing this cover, was that it was a young adult book. I thought it was an adult, spiritual kind of book. Like, Lovely Bones, or something. That’s why I didn’t read it. I’d never doubted the brilliantness, I just doubted it would be brilliant for me. I was wrong.
Mad About the Hatter by Dakota Chase
I was so sad about this book! The cover is fantastic! The story, Alice’s brother in Neverland trying to escape with the help of the Madhatter… perfection. Yeah. No. It was not that. It was a confusing mass of words bound together between cardboard. That’s all. It made no sense. It was a huge letdown, and that was not what I expected.
I’m sorry to hear these books weren’t what you expected. I hope you find better books soon. Happy reading!

I also tried reading Mad About the Hatter, and if I remember right, I found it boring. Too bad – because that cover is stunning!
The Sea of Tranquility is stamped on my heart forever.
Thanks for sharing. 🙂

I haven’t picked up The Girl With All The Gifts for that very reason – I had a feeling it wasn’t as good as the hype suggested!

I could be-no, I know I’m in the minority. So, don’t let me be the naysayer. 😀
Also, definitely recommend the movie. It’s great.

I haven’t read any of the books you’ve mentioned, Birdie, but as their not in my preferred reading genre, that’s unsurprising. I’m sorry that you’ve been disappointed by some of them but isn’t wonderful when stories can surprise you! I’m glad it wasn’t all doom and gloom.
I hope 2020 has more successes than failures. X
