WHAT BOOK WOULD YOU MAKE EVERYONE READ?

I’m a bit of a book pusher, so this could be a long list, but the one I push the hardest is probably Jellicoe Road.  Of all the people I’ve convinced to read it, only one person wasn’t a fan.  I’d say she’s crazy, but I like her too much!  😀

WHAT WOULD YOU ABOLISH IN BOOK CONSTRUCTION?

Maybe it’s because I read Kat’s first, but I have to agree with her in every way.  There’s absolutely nothing that bothers me more than when a series switches design covers in between publications.  I own Anna and the French Kiss, and Lola and the Boy Next Door.  I love the covers.  Then Isla and the Happily Ever After came out, and the format was completely changed.  It’s awful.  It haunts me.

WHAT AUTHOR WOULD YOU COMMISSION TO WRITE YOU ANY BOOK?

I wouldn’t.  I don’t want to commission any author to write anything.  That sounds like the recipe for disaster.  I think that writing a book is art, and in order to write something good you have to feel inspired.  If I direct a specific book to a specific author, it’s like commissioning passionless art.  No thank you.

WHAT BOOK WOULD YOU DEMOTE TO THE LIBRARY BASEMENT TO MAKE ROOM FOR NEW BOOKS?

Oh man, Sweet Valley Confidential!  It was SUCH a travesty!  What kind of crack was being smoked when that was written.  There is no way on earth that Todd was in love with Jessica the whole time.  No way.  A book like Sweet Valley Confidential has a built in fan base.  That fan base is made up of Sweet Valley fans.  You took that fan base and you smashed your wrecking ball through everything we loved.

I wish I could unread the 25% I read.

WHAT COVER ARTIST WOULD YOU COMMISSION TO MAKE A MURAL?

Maggie Stiefvater.  No question.  I’m pretty sure she does her own cover work, and the art she shows her fans on Instagram and stunning.  I’d LOVE to have her come paint whatever she wants on my wall.

WHAT CHARACTER’S FACE WOULD YOU PUT ON A COIN?

Han Alister, from Seven Realms by Cinda WIlliams Chima.  He went from street rat, to high wizard.  He’s amazing.  He’s why I’ll never read Flamecaster.

WHAT BOOK WOULD YOU AWARD THE “RULER OF BOOKS” 2016 PRIZE TO?

Outlander!  It’s epic, It’s monumental.  It historical, with time travel.  It’s full of adventure, and intrigue.  Romance.  And most importantly, it has James Alexander Malcolm McKenzie Fraser!
