Why I’m dying to read this:
I’m a pretty big fan of Maggie Stiefvater’s writing. I even like her blog posts, instagram, and twitter feed. I think she’s a phenomenal author, and that’s the main reason why I’m so excited about this book. It seems like she only gets better. I also feel an extra interest about All The Crooked Saints because of the controversy. I’ve never believed that an author is limited in their believability based on their own ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation. Being an own-voice author does bring more credibility, but it’s not the only option for writing diverse. I’d like to believe that Maggie did her due diligence and I’m willing to give her a shot with an open mind.

I wasn’t aware there was controversy around this book. What is it? I love Maggie’s work as well and will read it regardless of what other think, but I am curious.

I think, from reading peoples thoughts on Goodreads, that they don’t like her use of writing about a Mexican family and Mexican culture. I believe they think its a level of appropriation. Though I also read that Maggie had sensitivity readers along the way because she didn’t want to offend anyone. I just think its interesting that this is being discussed already. Nobody has gotten an ARC so nobody, on either side of the debate, has actually read it yet.

Interesting. I can see their point but I agree with your original comment about authors not always sticking to their own culture. As long as they do their research it is fine with me.

Thank you for mentioning this one Wendy! I’m a fan of Maggie’s writign but it’s been a long time since I’ve read one of her books and I did not know of this one. Now I have one more book to add on my TBR

I am such a fan of Stiefvater’s storytelling, and have been hearing some good things about this one. Stiefvater is such an intelligent woman, who comes off as being a really decent person, who cares about people. I couldn’t imagine that she would write about something real-world without researching it throughly.

I’ve heard a lot about Maggie Stiefvater’s books in the past few months. I haven’t read any of her work myself, but I trust your judgment so I might have to check her out. I hope you enjoy it when you get around to reading it! ❤

I recently won an ARC of this one and can’t wait to read it later this month. I’ve seen some of the comments you’re referring to but, like you, I plan to go in with an open mind. I just can’t see judging a book before I’ve even read it.
