One of my favorite Goodreads features is their Year in Books. I look forward to it each December.
I get a sick kind of enjoyment at the end of each year. I’m a bookworm through and through, so knowing how many books I read each year is like a badge of honor.
I’m positive all of you understand why I love sharing these stats!
Total Books/Pages

38,462 pages over 122 books. That’s an average of 315 pages a book. That sounds about right. Now that I’m older I like the fast shorter reads, and tend to steer clear of the longer, denser, reads. 330ish pages tends to be my sweet spot. I can sweep through those in no more than two days.
All in all, not too shabby, I don’t think.
Book Length

Then you run into books like this and throws that average right out the window. Scorpio Loops Virgo wasn’t really a book, so I’m not sure that counts. Instead, lets look at The Wall of Winnipeg and Me. Do you know how intimidating this book was for me? 673 pages of romance novel! I was so afraid it would be too hefty to carry the story, but instead I fell in love. I’m so glad I got over my nerves!
Popularity

Eleanor Oliphant was my most popular book! I’m kind of shocked. I know everyone was reading it, but I had no idea so MANY people were reading it! I guess Miss Eleanor stole all of our hearts. I know she sure stole mine!

This average rating is not a shocker. I’ve always known I’m a happy rater. I think my average rating has been above four each year I’ve shared these results with you. What can I say; I love books.
Overall, Highest Rated

I’m so excited that Wavehouse has been so popular! It’s a really wonderful YA book, with brilliant and honest parental representation. It was one of my favorite books of 2018, and I’ve tried to find ways to push this one on others, and this time Goodreads did it for me!
Read. This. Book.
First Review of 2018

I included this so I had both a first and a last review, but it’s not accurate. I read, and reviewed, this book years ago. The only thing I did new, and the reason this book generated as my first review, was because I did a Kate Daniels reread in 2018 and I added a second read date.
So, keep scrolling. This was an old review.
Last Review of 2018

THIS review is real, and DAMN I loved this book!! Excellent romance. Excellent characters. Amazing story.
I AM a super-fan of Melanie Hansen romance!
2018 Reading Challenge Results

Look at that challenge. I’m 235% completed. I’m a serious over achiever. I’m ‘really good at reading’, or so this says.
The truth is, I set my challenge really low this year. I only signed up for one book a week, but I did it on purpose. I wanted a stress free year. I don’t know about you, but being shamed by Goodreads for getting behind on a reading challenge takes a bit of enjoyment out of the books.
I decided I’m going to read how I want, when I want, and I’d make my challenge my cheerleader the entire time, no matter what.
I smoked it, and I loved every moment!
Well done! Eleanor also stole my heart this year! I instantly added Wavehouse to my TBR!

YAY! I hope you like it as much as I did. I rarely find YA books that don’t glorify or vilify parenting. There’s a freshness in the way the mother daughter relationship was written in Wavehouse.

I have no idea what to read next by Mariana Zapata. I keep looking at her books, but it’s hard to know where to go next!

You should read Wait for it by Zapata. It’s about Vanessa’s friend Diana. Then, read Kulti after that. Read Dear Aaron before Lukov.

Amazing! I love reading these review posts and I always do one myself! Unfortunately, I didn’t make my reading goal this year and I’m so disappointed! I know I had a lot going on with homeschooling my kids for the first time and lots of new projects but I’m determined to make 2019 a better reading year!
