In preparing to answer this book tag I started thinking about why we all love Book Tag so much, when it’s the more popular form of chain mail?

We all hate Chain Mail.  Or most of us probably.  It really sucks how they’ve invaded social networks.  The concept of chain mail went from regular post, to email, and now it’s all over Pinterest and Facebook!  I fear eventually it’ll leak onto my Instagram.

What do a lot of us love?  Book Tag!  This is only my second one, and I can already tell you they’re addicting!  (And this is the first one I was purposely tagged on, and didn’t just join an open tag like my first.  THAT is a great feeling!)

Obviously there are differences, though.  The biggest difference is how Book Tag is a positive thing.  It’s about spreading our love of reading, and becoming familiar with our wonderful blogging community!  (Whereas, Chain mail ends with doom and gloom.)  Even more important, it’s fun!

So, with that said, I’d like to thank Ayaka from Midnight Ranter for tagging me; I love feeling included!
I love to follow other blogs, but I’m pretty selective about the blogs I follow.  I like content similar to my own interests, written well, and I admit to being taken in by a pretty site. I first paused on Midnight Ranter’s blog because it’s just really beautiful.  I stayed and followed because I liked what she had to say.

The Questions:

1. Reading on the couch or on the bed?

Both!  I read throughout the day, so I usually start on the couch (with the television on and a computer in front of me) and then I eventually take my kindle/book with me and read in bed for a while before sleeping.  If I have to choose one, I prefer bed just because I’m more comfy.

2. Male main character or female main character?

My first instinct is to say ‘Female MC’, because that’s what I usually read, with more than a few exceptions.  However, now that I’m devouring a lot of M/M Romance’s I read a lot of Male MC by default.  As an adult I’m probably very 50/50 in the MC’s gender.  (Plus, a lot of my favorite books had Male MC’s.)

3. Sweet snacks or salty snacks when reading?

I actually like chocolate/yogurt covered pretzels.  So, sweet and salty.  BUT, in an effort to not be difficult and choose both on every question, I’ll say if I’m given a choice between a regular candy bar and a bag of chips/popcorn I’m going to pick salty every time.

4. Trilogies or quartets?

What questions!  How to choose!  If it’s a series I love and it’s still got a good forward momentum, quartets.  Even fivetets or sixtets.  It just should stop when the timing feels right.

5. First person point of view or third person point of view?

Third person.  I’m on a TJ Klune binge read lately, and he usually writes 1st.  I love 1st person for the intimacy, but it seems harder to pull off.  I’m more easily disappointed in a 1st person narrative.

6. Reading at night or in the morning?

At night.  I read at work, on my breaks and lunches (two 15 and a half hour), but I do the bulk of my reading at night when the family goes to bed and it’s just me and my book.

7. Libraries or bookstores?

I hate admitting this, because I feel like hardcore readers need a library card, but I don’t really use the library much.  On occasion I may use an online library for an ebook, but on the whole I don’t go visit the library.

It all started when I was a kid and I realized I never wanted to give them back.  Actually, I’m going to be honest, I didn’t give them back.  I have a really bad library track record, but only as a child.  Now, I just don’t borrow (unless it’s from a friend) I buy.

8. Books that make you laugh or make you cry?

Another ‘both’ answer, but I’ll make myself choose.  Making me cry in a book is pretty easy.  Even books I’ve given a 2 star rating could have given me a lump in my throat, or wet eyes.  I think sadness and joy are the easiest emotions to evoke.  Then anger.  True laughter I think is the hardest.  Most books make you smile, or even a little throat chuckle.  The books that make you snort, laugh until you cry, and embarrass yourself in public because of the spectacle you’ve made of yourself?  That’s hard.  I can only think of 2 that affected me that way: Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, and How to Be a Normal Person.  Those are rare, so I’d choose real laughter because it doesn’t happen often.

9. Black book covers or white book covers?

Um, neither?  Both?  Any color?  If I were to analyze the books I chose based on cover it would be neither.  I like colorful covers.  Really though, it doesn’t matter.  It’s the content that counts.

10. Character driven or plot driven stories?

Character driven.  Clearly a book needs a good plot, obviously.  I’ve just read a lot of books with very understated plots, or very little plot at all, but if the characters were amazing then I loved it.  (See Me and Earl and the Dying Girl again, please.)  On the flip-side, if a book has an amazing plot but the characters are awful, or poorly thought out, that would ruin a book for me.
