VACATIONS are a magical time, right? When they’re coming up, even if you’re not going anywhere, you feel feel like all your worries and cares are just going to evaporate and it’ll be a week of the most peaceful relaxation you’ve had in a long time. They’re almost like magical rejuvenation for your mental balance. It’s like, harnessing your chi, or finding your zen.
That’s how I imagine my VACATIONS, at least.
As much as I look forward to kicking back and not wearing a bra, the best part of VACATION is how many books I just know I’m going to read! There’s an ongoing joke between Angie Elle and I that VACATIONS mean we’re going to read 5000 books… Angie recently said 8000, but I think she was slightly exaggerating. It was a very lofty goal.
My VACATION just ended a couple weeks ago. I had this grand scheme of doing nothing but reading and blogging. I was going to, at least, read one book for every day I was off, and I was going to get, at least, a month ahead on Birdie Bookworm. Yes, I still had to get up to take my daughter to school, but that only meant I’d have the entire day to be biblio-productive! I was a girl on a mission, which maybe doesn’t necessarily sound relaxing to most people but it was perfect for me.
So, now my VACATION is over, let’s find out what I really did on that oh so glorious break.
Saturday & Sunday – Got my daughter ready to go back to school…. spent time with the family.
Monday – Labor Day Picnic with my parents and Grandma.
Tuesday – Drove my daughter to her first day of 8th Grade, spent the day with my Grandma. We went out to lunch and to the bookstore. Books were involved.
Wednesday – My day of rest. Day of Relaxing. Day of Reading. Day of Blogging.
Thursday – Spent the whole day with B-Rex, chatting and munching on unhealthy foods like heathens. Went to see IT at midnight.
Friday – Back and forth to the groomers with my Yorkie, and more reading.
So, my plan was to read 5000 books on my VACATION and now many do you think I actually read? Two. I read two books on my entire VACATION.
Here’s what’s more interesting. They were both so freaking good! I read both of them in about 1 1/2 days. That means through most of my glorious VACATION I wasn’t reading a book at all! I do think I managed to get a bit of blogging done and scheduled ahead, but definitely not a month.
So, what was my lesson here? What did my 2017 VACATION teach me? Did I meet all my goals?
Reading – Fail
Blogging – Passable
Spending Time with Family – Success!
I can’t be mad about that.
Do you think I’ll remember this lesson for next year?
Yeah, me neither.
Being such an introvert, I have to make a conscious effort to make time for family, but it’s always worth it! I’m glad the two books you ended up reading were great! That’s all that matters. 🙂

That’s what I had to keep reminding myself of. It wasn’t quantity, it was quality! 🙂

Haha, well it’s still good to hear you had a great vacation, even if you only read 2 books! It’s better than none at all. I feel like when I go on vacation, I feel like I have a million things that I gotta do (although granted I feel like that every weekend! 😛 ) but it sounds like you had a pretty rounded week! 🙂

Haha! I love this post. I pretty much had the exact same game plan for my vacation a few weeks ago. I think I ended up reading maybe 3 books and didn’t get any future blog posts scheduled.

Oh my word! I hate to be predictable, but I LOVED this post. LOL It is a replica of how my vacations go – for the reading part, anyway. Great post! 🙂
