About the Book: Nearly a year ago, blinded by grief and betrayal, Sam of Wilds made a desperate decision to follow the Great White into the Dark Woods. Now, he emerges to a world changed.
The City of Lockes is a prison. The King has been locked away in the dungeons. The Kingdom of Verania has fallen, and the Dark wizard Myrin sits on the throne.
But soon after his return, Sam learns of a resistance fighting in his name led by a courageous knight, a defiant prince, a pissed-off unicorn, and a half-giant who wants to smash everything in sight. If he has any hope of defeating the villains who have taken their home, Sam must face the consequences of his choices—and the friends he left behind.
Series finale’s are always so hard to review. I’ve been staring at this template for about 20 minutes now, just trying to figure out what I can say that I haven’t said on one of the first three books.
A Wish Upon the Stars was a solid ending to this absolutely insane fantasy series. With the exception of Prince Justin’s love life, all of the open threads were given closure. I think, overall, I could have used more moments of seriousness since the stories were tragic in their own way. However, I understand that Tales of Verania is a comedy series first. Every single character in this world is ridiculous, and that’s exactly how they’re supposed to be. Plus, we did get serious in the end. There was only one way the battle was going to go, and that was without jokes. I really appreciated it, because it showed how dire their situation really was.
I was mostly happy with the happy ending, maybe it was a little too happy, but to elaborate would be too much of a spoiler so I’m just going to leave the book talk here. Instead, I’m going to pressure you into picking up this series. See, right now The Lightning Struck Heart is FREE on Amazon. It literally costs you nothing to try the first book. You should do it. Because, really these reviews are pretty much about how amazing TJ Klune is as an author. You need to jump on this bandwagon before he blows up. Which is gonna happen.
TJ recently signed a contract for a YA queer superhero trilogy with Tor Teen. It’ll be in actual bookstores. I am so freaking excited! He’s fantastic! Maybe The Lightning Struck Heart wouldn’t be my first choice for a new reader, but it’s readily available right now. You truly have nothing to lose. Go, right now, and grab it!

“Every single character in this world is ridiculous, and that’s exactly how they’re supposed to be.” Perfect description lol. The book did have good closure though, and eventually we’ll get more of our beloved Justin! 😛

Oh man, I can’t wait for that! It’ll be epic! I hope his love interest is as insane as Sam is, so that Ryan can make fun of Justin!

I didn’t even know I wanted his love interest to be as insane as Sam until now lol.

Haha yes, I find that the further I get in a series the harder it is to review!
Fantastic review though, I’ve just bought the first book 🙂
