Top 5 Tuesday!
My favorite tropes, and ones that I’d love to see more of. The idea of ‘tropes’ has always been a tricky one for me. I think all books follow similar plot lines. There are only so many out there, and the specifics are what makes each book better or worse.
These are the 5 that I find I usually like.
Top 5 Tuesday was started by Shanah at Bionic Book Worm!
Enemies/Nemesis to Lovers!
Enemies to Lovers is a popular trope, and it’s obvious why. It’s fantastic when it comes to intensity and anticipation. It’s a trope guaranteed to keep me on the edge of my seat, and usually crack me up when the two angry enemies start realizing there’s a deep attraction underneath. Scrumptious!Scheduled October 5th
Oblivious Romantic Interest
I’d never have thought this trope would be one I’d love, but I do! Every time I read a romance novel and the main character can’t see the attraction staring him in the face, and it always cracks me up! I would have thought I’d find it annoying, but instead I find it irresistible.
Grumpy Guy!
There’s nothing that gets me going in a romance novel like a grumpy guy. I love when the hero is all kinds of grouchy, but softens for the love interest. It always makes mushy inside. I’m such a sucker for this trope, I married my own grumpy guy! Every time he says something sweet, I’m putty in his hands.
Falling in Love through Text
There’s something about reading two characters falling in love through letters that gets me right in the heart. I think maybe it feels more honest, less physical, when they haven’t even seen what the other looks like. If it’s an anonymous romance, I’m completely invested!
Redemption
Is there anything more interesting to read then an unexpected redemption arc? Someone you knew was evil, but somehow it turned out they were a good person the whole time? There were just extenuating circumstances, or a change of heart, then they end up becoming your favorite character? I definitely love this trope.
Wonderful post, thank you for giving book examples of each trope!! They are all wonderful and unlike some. I enjoy them as well

Enemies to lovers is one of my favourites – I can’t believe that I forgot to list that one myself! Falling in love through text/email is so amazing! It’s a complete attraction of personality without appearance getting in the way – goes straight to my heart every time!

Ooh I love it!
Tropes and cliches are that for a reason, because people love them 🙂
I really need to read Storm and Silence.

This is such a great list, romance novels are my stress release too!! And I never even thought of oblivious romantic interest, but I love that one! It’s so fun watching them be clueless and mentally yelling at them things like, “THEY’RE IN LOVE WITH YOU, JEEZ.” 😂

Ah yes grumpy dudes, yum!
Also that Beard Science cover is SO cool that I have been, ironically, afraid to actually read it lest it disappoint in comparison! But your rec pushes me closer.

Oh man, Cletus could never disappoint anyone! You’d just have to start with Truth & Beard, because you first get to know more in the first few books.
