Diversity Spotlight #8

Diversity Spotlight Thursday was created by Aimal @ Bookshelves & Paperbacks.  (The link takes you to her original Diversity Spotlight post, where she talks about her motivation for creating this meme.  You should check it out.)

As I was searching for another meme to participate in I was especially drawn to Diversity Spotlight Thursday.  I do love the idea of sharing books with a wide range of characters, but it was also because I’m always on the hunt for reading material that showcases people who are different from myself.

The way it works is simple.  You select three books to highlight each week, using this format:

  1. A diverse book you have read and enjoyed
  2. A diverse book that has already been released but you have not read
  3. A diverse book that has not yet been released

A Diverse Book I Have Read and Enjoyed

Olive Juice

I really can’t give anything about the plot of Olive Juice away.  Just know, it was a short, powerful, story about more than just diversity.  It was also about injustice.

A Diverse Book That Has Already Been Released, but I Have Not Read

You're Welcome, Universe

I tried for an ARC of this book, but sadly it was a denial.  Regardless, this is a book that I’ll make sure I read.  I love the premise, and I want to read how the author writes the deaf community.  I think I need to bump this one up my list.

A Diverse Book that Has Not Been Released

Heroine Worship

Not only is this one of the most unique Urban Fantasy series I’ve ever read, it also has an exceptionally diverse cast.  The best part is that they’re diverse without the book being about diversity.  They’re just a group of friends that are of different ethnicity.  I love it!

Are there any Diverse books that you’re looking forward to reading, or one that you loved?

About Birdie

Don’t look for her in any bar, club, crazy raging party, or anywhere there may be a large gathering of strangers. She’s more likely to be found tucked into the corner of the couch watching one of her favorite shows, or preferably under a comforter with her current novel.

  1. I’ve also been wanting to read You’re Welcome Universe! I hope we both get to it soon. Heroine Complex also looks great! I’m adding the series to my TBR list.
