The Raven Cycle Book Tag

ravencycle__span

I would LOVE to have all four of those covers as a mural going down my hallway!  They are so freaking gorgeous, and perfectly fitting the story inside.  They’re just as dreamy and magical as Cabeswater!

Steph!  Thank you so much for tagging me.  I’ve been so excited for this tag ever since.  (I’ve even bumped it ahead of other tags.)  I’m pretty thankful that you thought of me.

If you don’t follow Lost: Purple Quill, Steph is pretty wonderful!  She’s got the best taste in books, and she’s awesome to talk with.  You should go follow her, stat.

The creator of this fun tag is Inside My Library Mind!  We all appreciate the awesome Raven Cycle tag!

Blue Sargent: Your Favorite Quirky Character

“Blue was a fanciful, but sensible thing. Like a platypus, or one of those sandwiches that had been cut into circles for a fancy tea party.”

I’m going to have to go with the obvious pick, Luna Lovegood!  She was always one of my favorite Harry Potter characters, and she’s the definition of Quirky Character.  Watch out for nargles!

Harry Potter

Gansey: A Leader

“Gansey was just a guy with a lot of stuff and a hole inside him that chewed away more of his heart every year.”

Steph and my taste is so similar that Gansey was also my first thought, and then my second was Kaz, which was also her pick!  I’ve gotta come up with something new… um…

I think I’m going to spin this one differently and go with Cletus Winston.  He’s more of the silent leader, but I think he counts.  He’s the true leader of the Winston clan, but nobody realizes it.  He’s spinning and manipulating everyone’s lives, making them better, while flying completely under the radar.  I love Cletus.

Beard Science

Ronan Lynch: Your Favorite Character of All Time

“I am being perfectly fucking civil.”

You have no idea how much I love this quote.  It’s the perfect 6 words words to sum up Ronan Lynch.

I feel like I say this every time.  Favorite character/Book Boyfriend whatever you want to call it, my favorite character of all time -in any genre- is himself, James Alexander Malcolm MacKenzie Fraser.  Jamie will always be my favorite.

outlander

Adam Parrish: A Character You Disliked at First but Love Now

“If you combined these two things – the unfathomable and the practical – you were most of the way to understanding Adam Parrish.”

Laurent of Vere!  In the first book, Captive Prince, you will hate him.  If you’re anything like me, you’ll be asking yourself how anyone could come back from the horrific things that Laurent did.  Now, Laurent is one of my most beloved characters.  He is one of the most intricate, well developed, character I’ve ever read.

Noah: The Most Lovable Character

“Depending on where you began the story, it was about Noah.”

I had a few characters in my head for ‘lovable’, but then my brain screamed CHEEZUS and I burst out laughing because I just knew… there is no character as lovable as Blake Riley.  He’s a big, loud, joyful teddy bear.

good-boy

The Women of 300 Fox Way: Your Favorite Female Role Model

“You could ask anyone: 300 Fox Way, Henrietta, Virginia, was the place to go for the spiritual, the unseen, the mysterious, and the yet-to-occur. ”

Natalie Grayson is the best.  I love her entire outlook.  It’s not often that I find a heroine that makes me feel so empowered.  She was a strong woman, with a healthy body image.  I adored her.

cream-of-the-crop

The Search for Glendower: A Book Series You Wish Had Never or Will Never End

“He was everything Gansey wished he could be: wise and brave, sure of his path, touched by the supernatural, respected by all, survived by his legacy.”

Even though the trilogy is complete, I’ve never been ready to leave behind The Lumatere Chronicles.  I’d hoped for a spin-off series, or anything.  Melina Marchetta is the best writer, and she can tackle anything.

Mr. Gray: An Anti-Hero

“There aren’t terrible ideas. Just ideas done terribly.”

This is where I’m going to pull the Kaz Brekker card.  Kaz is the epitome of an Anti-Hero.  I’m not even sure he ended up being a hero at all.  The readers all still love him.  His crew loves him.

Six of Crows

Psychics and Tarot Cards: Your Favorite Magic System

“It was impossible to forget that all of these women were plugged into the past and tapped into the future, connected to everything in the world and to one another.”

For me, the world of the Four London’s has become my absolute favorite.  I love the idea of the walls between each of them, and the travel.  Prior to Harry Potter I hadn’t read any other world building quite like this one.

Darker Shade

Kavinsky: Your Favorite Unlikable Character

“Reality’s what other people dream for you.”

Hey Steph, guess who I’m about to call out!  😀

My favorite unlikable character is Andrew Minyard!  He’s harsh and coarse, angry and violent.  He really doesn’t grow much as a character.  He’s messed up, and in the end he’s still messed up.  What changes is the reader.  We change as we read about him, and in the end we all love him something fierce.

The Foxhole Court

Cabeswater: Your Favorite Book Setting

“Cabeswater was such a good listener.”

Okay, I’m totally cheating.  I have to pick Cabeswater itself for my favorite book setting.  Not just Cabeswater, but the entire setting of Raven Cycle.  I love Cabeswater, 300 Fox Way, Monmouth… the whole thing is perfection.

Raven Boys

I TAG:

This tag is a lot like the Shades of Magic tag I did.  It’s only fun when you’ve read the books.

If you’ve read Raven Boys, and you want to join us, please do so.  And let me know.  It was so much fun.

About Birdie

Don’t look for her in any bar, club, crazy raging party, or anywhere there may be a large gathering of strangers. She’s more likely to be found tucked into the corner of the couch watching one of her favorite shows, or preferably under a comforter with her current novel.

  1. Laurent is SUCH a great answer for the Adam question! I hated him SO MUCH and love him SO MUCH. And Andrew is the perfect answer for the unlikable character question. Laurent develops and becomes more lovable as we get to know him, but I like how you pointed out that Andrew doesn’t really change, it’s more on our part. VERY true.

      1. Yes! I never really ~approved~ of some of Andrew’s behavior and actions, but instead of being like “why are you doing this??” I started thinking “I love you even though you are doing this.”
