Top 5 Tuesday | K to O, My Characters

It’s week #2, with some of my favorite characters named K through O.

My guess, at least 2 of these will be on multiple lists!

I didn’t struggle with any of these. In fact, I’ve almost finished my whole alphabet. Go me!

Top 5 Tuesday was originally hosted by Shanah at Bionic Book Worm, but recently found it’s home with Meeghan at Meeghan Reads.

K – Kaz Brekker

“I’m a business man,” he’d told her. “No more, no less.”
“You’re a thief, Kaz.”
“Isn’t that what I just said?”

Leigh Bardugo, Six of Crows

Kaz Brekker is going to dominate this week, I just feel it in my bones. There’s just something special about him. In the first chapter you’re practically knocked over with the force that is Kaz Brekker. He’s broken. Both his spirit and his body. Yet, you know that is still the most powerful of all.

L – Laurent of Vere

“Is there anyone at this court who isn’t my enemy?”
“Not if I can help it,” Laurent said.”

C.S. Pacat, Captive Prince

Laurent is the most cunning character I’ve ever read. Not only is he the smartest fictional character, he is also the most complex. Through the course of the series you, along with Damen, will go from hating his existence to worshiping him. He is a steel core covering a vulnerable heart.

M – Mia Corvere/Mr. Kindly

“…bravo…” Mister Kindly said, “..if only I had hands to applaud..”
Mia smacked her backside. “I’d settle for lips to kiss my sweet behind.”
“…I would have to find it first…”
“Arses are like fine wine, Mister Kindly. Better too little than too much.”
“…a beauty and a philosopher. be still my beating heart…” The not-cat looked down at its translucent chest, “…O,wait…”

Jay Kristoff, Nevernight

I could have gone with either Mia, or Mr Kindly, but the truth is they are a pair. It’s the dynamic between the both of them that creates the best part of the series. I’m extra glad I found a quote showing the two of them to interacting.

N – Nikolai Lantsov

“You’re late,” said Zoya.
“I’m the king,” said Nikolai. “That means you’re early.”

Leigh Bardugo, King of Scars

I fell in love with Nikolai in the Grisha trilogy. In fact, when I finished the trilogy, I wished upon a star for the continuation of the Grishaverse to be about Nikola, and low and behold I got my wish. King of Scars was awesome, particularly because we got more of this multi-layered funny character.

O – Oxnard Matheson

“His breath on my face. This was Joe. And I was Ox. His nose touched mine. My hands found his waist. He shuddered under the touch. He rumbled deep in his chest. He said, “Mine.” My cheek scraped against his. The wolf growled, “Mine.” It was a great and terrible thing. So I said, “Yeah. Joe. Yeah. Yes.”

T.J. Klune, Wolfsong

Ox is so special. It’s hard to put into words what sets him apart from other characters, even in TJ’s world. The quietness of him. The silent strength. He was told he was gonna get shit, and he did. But, he was steady in the storm and he is the reason they all continue to survive and thrive. I could read about Ox and Joe forever.

About Birdie

Don’t look for her in any bar, club, crazy raging party, or anywhere there may be a large gathering of strangers. She’s more likely to be found tucked into the corner of the couch watching one of her favorite shows, or preferably under a comforter with her current novel.

Super glad that Laurent made at least one other list.
And I’m looking forward to meeting Nikolai and Oxnard hopefully soon!! x
