I’ll jump at any opportunity to talk characters! Trying to find one for each letter of the alphabet sounded like too much fun to pass up.

Just like book titles, I’m sure there are some letters I can’t think of.

But, I already got Q and V all set!

A – Artemis Darth Vader!

I have no idea how these children come out of TJ’s head. I swear, his brain is like a magicians hat. Artemis Darth Vader was so fantastic a character. A little girl, with her braids, and her bacon, and her omniscient brain.
If it weren’t for Alex, she would been in a home for extraordinary children, that’s for sure.

B – Blake Riley

“He releases me with a wet pop. “You. Me. We’re a thing, if I do you in my bed.” “Says who?” My words are tough, but I’ve heated up faster than the top-of-the-line stove I spotted in his spiffy kitchen. “Says me. My bed is a temple. It’s reserved for solo spanks. And girlfriends.”

Sarina Bowen, Good Boy

Come on! I don’t understand how anyone could not fall in love with this giant-hearted hero. His big goofy smile, and his loud booming voice. His overall hilarity. I could do an entire Blake Riley series.

C – Casey Richards

“This can be our share space.” He waved his arms around like he was encompassing the entire area.
“Our share space,” Gus repeated.
“Yes,” Casey said seriously. “You can share with me in our share space. It’s a safe place for sharing. Judgment free, that’s you and me.”
“I’m judging you,” Gus said. “You rhymed and I’m judging you.”
“Share space,” Casey whispered, staring at Gus intently.”

T.J. Klune, How to Be a Normal Person

First off, while Gus is absolutely the best character (just wait for G week), Casey is seriously underrated. It was HARD finding a quote that was so perfect Casey, because it seems were all so caught up in Grumpy Gus. Casey is fantastic all on his own! His stigmata, come on! He got his medical marijuana card for stigmata! You can’t get funnier than that!

D – Dexter J Daley

“Now how do I access Google?”
Was he serious? “Why do you need Google?”
“When don’t you need Google?”
He was serious. “How about when you have a powerful, multimillion dollar government interface linked to numerous intelligence agencies across the globe right in front of you.”
Dex squinted at him, his lips pursed thoughtfully. “So… is that a no on Google?”

Charlie Cochet, Hell & High Water

There’s no one out there like Dex. His love of the 80’s. His smartass mouth. His bold and brave personality. The way he supports and loves his little brother, and his crew. He brings all the funny, and all the camaraderie.

E – Emmett Washington

“I am normal. I belong. I have a friend who can kick ass from a wheelchair. I live independently and get good grades. I’m an excellent lover.
Like I said. I’m awesome. I’m Emmet David Washington. Train Man. The best autistic Blues Brother on the block.”

Heidi Cullinan, Carry the Ocean

I’ve read this book a few times, and every time I feel so much for Emmett. Emmett is so wise. I love that he was the strength of the story. He was a force. It’s an odd thing, wondering if I feel strongly because of his autism, but no. I admire him because he knows who he is, and he’s unapologetic about it. That’s what I strive to be.
